**LITTLE BUDDIES (2-4yrs) LEADER REQUIREMENTS**

**Essential Requirements**
- At least a qualification at QCF Level 5 Diploma in Childcare, Learning & Development or Playwork; or equivalent or working towards within next 1-2yrs
- Relevant experience working with children aged 0-4 years.
- Two satisfactory relevant references.
- Satisfactory Access NI Disclosure Check & Clear Health Declaration.

**Desirable Requirements**
- Relevant leadership skills to support the management of delivering a high-quality programme within the ethos, implementation and legal requirements of the Minimum Childminding and Daycare Standards.
- Previous experience within a Daycare Setting
- Safeguarding Training
- Paediatric First Aid
- Food Safety Certificate

**Duties**

The Leader will go about their duties with honesty and integrity and ensure the needs are always met and take precedence. They must be conversant with all buddies Policies and Procedures. They must work as part of the Staff Team and liaise between the Staff and the Manager/Assistant Manager.

**Statutory Requirements**

The Leader must work with the Assistant Manager/Manager to ensure the programme complies with the requirements and the Minimum Childminding and Daycare Standards. They must ensure good practice as set out in the Standards and they must ensure compliance with all relevant statutory regulations, for example, Health and Safety Law.

**Attitude**

At all times the Leader must display a high level of enthusiasm, loyalty and motivation and must adhere to the correct policies and ethos of buddies. They must promote equal opportunities for all. They must at all times promote the good name of buddies. They must ensure their appearance is neat and tidy at all times, is appropriate for their status and that they abide by the correct dress code. They must be a role model of good practice.

**The Children**

The Leader must at all times ensure the safety, care, welfare and happiness of the children in their care. They must ensure all children have access to resources, equipment, activities and learning opportunities to reach their full development and potential. The Leader must be aware any children in their care with special needs (including special educational needs and disabilities) and is proactive in ensuring appropriate action is taken to promote the welfare and development of those children within the centre. The Leader must ensure that all adults working and looking after children in the centre are able to put the appropriate procedures for the Safeguarding of Children into practice.

**Premises**

The Leader must at all times ensure the cleanliness and tidiness of the room, and regulate heat and light as appropriate. They must report any areas in need of maintenance and also monitor the equipment and facilities, and ensure the correct atmosphere.

**Parents**

In consultation with the Assistant Manager/Manager, the Leader must strive to develop loyalty and commitment of parents, and build a relationship of trust with them and ensure their satisfaction with the service. They must also meet parents’ reasonable needs as appropriate. They must ensure communication of policies and good practice to parents, and make sure they are aware of new developments. In consultation with the Manager, the Leader must be proactive and seek to resolve parents’ concerns and complaints promptly.

**Early Years Foundation Stage and Children’s Activities**

In consultation with the Assistant Manager/Manager and Early Years Professional (if applicable), the Leader must oversee the planning, organisation and smooth running of the children's activities. The Leader must ensure the supply of appropriate resources. They must ensure the activities are appropriate for the children’s developmental stage, monitor their content, make assessments of their worth and that appropriate records are kept. The staff and activities must achieve high quality teaching and learning within the Standards. The Leader must ensure the economic use of resources and materials.

**Staff**

The Leader must provide leadership for the staff. They must maintain a professional manner at all times providing a good role model for staff during work hours and out of work hours. They must maintain a professional Leader’s distance from staff during work hours and out of work hours. The Leader must ensure staff abide by all buddies policies and procedures.
