Job Advert Description

**About the Ethics Committee**

Transparency and integrity are crucial in helping to build public trust and confidence in policing. North Wales Police has an Ethics Committee which provides advice, support and assistance concerning ethical challenges arising from operational, administrative, or organisational matters faced by North Wales Police officers and staff.

The committee membership includes a chairperson, internal and external members. It is vital that the committee has the influence of a wide spectrum of members, the force including age and experience.

External members consist of members of Independent Advisory Groups, academics, and students.

**The terms of reference for the Committee are**:

- Consider ethical dilemmas submitted to the committee and make recommendations to Chief Officers
- Promoting the highest standards of ethical conduct
- Ensure compliance with organisational values
- Use the College of Policing “Code of Ethics 2014” National Decision Making (NDM) model to assist in decision making
- Provide a focus for education into ethical issues
- Provide assurance check for NWP Algorithm/AI usage, utilising checking Standards framework

The meeting will be held on a three-monthly basis

**The Commitment**

***Members will be required to:

- Attend at least four meetings a year (quarterly).
- Prepare for meetings by considering relevant papers, reports and background information in advance.
- Maintain the highest personal standards of professional conduct and ethics.

**Application Process**

In no more than 300 words, applicants are required to submit an expression of interest with examples of the following:
Experience of chairing meetings effectively.
- Experience of understanding and operating in an ethical occupational environment.
- Experience of communicating across a wide spectrum of people both individuals and in groups.
- Experience of challenging unacceptable behaviour/ practices.
- Demonstrate good communication skills, both written and oral, with the ability to actively and critically contribute to discussion and debate.

Members of the Ethics Committee work on a voluntary basis, however North Wales Police will refund expenses and consider reasonable compensation to individuals for their time.
