Norfolk Library and Information Service is innovative and forward-looking and has installed Open Libraries self-service technology in 44 of 47 of its libraries. The move has enabled us to significantly extend opening hours allowing customers to access and use libraries anytime between 8am and 7pm Monday to Friday, 8am to 4pm on Saturday and 10am to 4pm on Sunday.

Libraries are safe and welcoming public spaces used by people of all ages, backgrounds, experience, and abilities. Libraries and library workers make a real difference. We are looking for an Open Library Supervisor to join the team to ensure that when libraries are operating in “Open Library” mode, customers have a safe and enjoyable visit. The role also supports colleagues in the wider service with technical and other issues outside 9-5 Monday to Friday.

If you like a varied and challenging role where no two days are the same, then Open Library Supervisors have a real opportunity to make a difference to people’s lives in the County of Norfolk. If you are confident working with a wide range of people, normally over the phone; if you can follow procedures and feel confident in your ability to work with customers and colleagues in sometimes difficult situations and have the confidence and ability to work on your own without direct line management; you could be the person we are looking for.

If you have a good knowledge of, and interest in, IT systems, this role offers a good opportunity to expand that knowledge, and to learn about how the library service runs behind the scenes.

Open Libraries allow the people of Norfolk to use the library service outside staffed opening times. This post is a full-time role, covering the morning shift from 7.45am to 4.15pm Wednesdays to Friday, and at the weekends 07.45 to 4.30pm Saturday, 09.15 to 4.30 Sundays.

As you may need to visit remote library sites at short notice a full (unrestricted B category) car driving license and access to own motor transport is essential for this role.

We want our people to be inspired and motivated to work well together, make the most of our workspaces, enjoy a healthy work-life balance, and deliver excellent services to Norfolk and its people. Flexibility is built into the way we work, with hybrid working a key feature for many roles. Our technology platform and equipment are first class, enabling you to connect and collaborate remotely. We ask that you have in place good Broadband connectivity.
