**COWES HARBOUR COMMISSION BOARD VACANCY**

Cowes Harbour Commission (CHC) has a vacancy for a non-executive Commissioner (finance) to join the CHC board.

Cowes Harbour is a Trust Port, designated and recognised by the Department for Transport (DfT). As such, it is an independent statutory body run by a board of commissioners for the benefit of stakeholders. The DfT requires Cowes Harbour Commission to operate as a commercial business, seeking to generate a surplus from its operations and marine services. Surpluses are then reinvested back into the harbour and its facilities for the benefit of Cowes Harbour stakeholders and the local economy.

The board of commissioners consists of ten independent non-executive commissioners lead by the chair. The commissioners are appointed on merit on an open recruitment basis to provide CHC with the professional skills and experience to determine the policy and business decisions of the organisation.

**The Role**

Along with other Board members you will oversee the governance, strategy and performance of the Trust and its associated operations.

The Finance Commissioner’s responsibility is to maintain an overview of the Trusts financial position and of the conduct of its financial affairs such that you can give well-grounded advice to the Board of Commissioners and CEO.

To be the liaison for financial statutory accounts and make resulting recommendations to the Board.

Provide scrutiny into financial statements, budgets, and forecasts, as required by the Board.

To play an active role in commercial business development identifying new revenue and funding streams.

Actively contribute to policy setting, strategic direction, goal and target setting, and evaluate performance against targets, budgets and strategic plans.

This is a voluntary position, but reasonable expenses can be reimbursed.

**Qualifications**
- The successful applicant must have degree level, CIMA, ACCA or ACA qualified

**Experience**:

- Can demonstrate a strong financial background with reputable organisations
- Board level experience in a large organisation is desirable

**Time commitment**

Commissioners are expected to attend eight Board meetings a year, held on a Friday morning. Commissioners also attend the public Annual General Meeting, as well as two informal dinner meetings a year.

Ad hoc and occasional support through working groups and / or support to the executive team.

**Term**

The commissioners are appointed for a term of three years and can usually serve a maximum of two terms.
