- Job description 1**Anti-Corruption Unit Investigator**

The main purpose of the role is to develop intelligence and investigate criminal allegations, complaints and conduct matters in respect of Police Officers, Special Constables and Police Staff.

**Main Responsibilities**:
Proactively identify, gather and evaluate intelligence to achieve ACU Strategic Threat Assessment objectives. Ensure that intelligence relating to threat, harm and risk is managed as a priority.

Act as Investigating Officer in covert and overt criminal, complaint and conduct investigations, gathering intelligence, debriefing intelligence sources, obtaining telecoms and other technical data and arranging covert surveillance. Gather evidence, obtain witness statements, conduct criminal (in accordance with PACE) and misconduct interviews and serve formal misconduct notices. Exercising designated Investigating Officer powers.

Plan days of action including briefings, obtaining and executing search warrants, conducting premises searches under other PACE powers, seizing and securing property / evidence ensuring the safe storage and entry onto the property management system.

Prepare criminal case files (to MG standard) in order to obtain CPS advice and progress through the criminal process to Court. Liaise with the CPS and legal departments.

Prepare confidential reports and correspondence for complaints and conduct matters, including the preparation of case files for gross misconduct hearings and meetings.

Provide support at misconduct hearings and meetings including the preparation of files, support to witnesses and liaison with Chief Officers.

Act as disclosure officer under the Criminal Procedure and investigations act 1996 making decisions relating to the relevance of unused material for disclosure to the CPS.

Provide professional and expert advice to senior officers and colleagues in respect of complaints and misconduct matters.

Proactively raise standards and ensure compliance with the Code of Ethics through interaction with the wider workforce via interventions with individuals and presentations to larger groups.

To undertake other duties commensurate with the nature, level of responsibility and grading of this post, as required.

**Knowledge**:
A sound understanding of the complaints and misconduct regulations together with the IOPC statutory guidance.

A good understanding of PACE, RIPA and disclosure rules relating to criminal investigations.

A thorough understanding of Police powers, the criminal law and investigative and forensic techniques.

Detailed understanding of the National Intelligence Model.

Detailed understanding of the Code of Ethics.

Knowledge of the Management of Police Information (MOPI) policy, disclosure and information sharing principles.

Knowledge of intelligence policy and procedures.

Knowledge and understanding of Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000.

**Experience**:
Significant experience in an investigative and analytical role.

Experience in the preparation, interpretation and presentation of comprehensive reports and documentation.

Experience of investigating criminal allegations and complaints and conduct matters concerning Police Officers and Police Staff.

**Key Skills**:
Accredited or previous PIP level 2 Investigator.

Proven investigative and interviewing skills.

Excellent oral and written communication skills, the ability to communicate with officers and staff at all levels.

Competent in the use of information technology including Microsoft packages and Alliance systems.

The ability to work to strict deadlines whilst working under pressure.

The ability to demonstrate and maintain the highest standards of integrity whilst undertaking challenging criminal and misconduct investigations.

**Special Conditions**

A requirement to work outside of normal office hours if required.

Extensive travel throughout the alliance area.
