**Kitchen Assistant / Cook Job Description**

**Department**: Kitchen

**Reports To**: Head Chef / General Manager

**Overall responsibility**:

- Support the kitchen team by efficiently completing prep tasks, cleaning, and ensuring a safe and organised work environment.
- Contribute to a positive and collaborative atmosphere by following instructions willingly and demonstrating enthusiasm for learning.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Ingredient Preparation: Assist with washing, peeling, chopping, and prepping ingredients as directed.
- Cooking & Finishing: Assist with basic cooking tasks like mise en place (preparing ingredients), assembling sandwiches, and plating dishes.
- Cleaning & Sanitation: Maintain a clean and sanitised work environment by washing dishes, utensils, and equipment, wiping down surfaces, and taking out trash.
- Last-Minute Requests: Assist with unforeseen needs as instructed, demonstrating flexibility and willingness to help.

**Inventory & Organization**:

- Stock Up & Replenish: Help restock ingredients, equipment, and cleaning supplies as needed.
- Label Management: Assist with maintaining accurate labels on ingredients and equipment.

**Safety & Hygiene**:

- Follow all food safety and hygiene regulations, maintaining personal cleanliness and proper handling of food.
- Report any safety concerns or equipment malfunctions to your supervisor immediately.

**Additional Responsibilities**:

- May assist with packing coffee for retail if assigned.
- May help with basic coffee preparation tasks if specifically trained and supervised.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Chef, Sous Chef, or Sandwich Prep Supervisor.

**Required Skills & Qualifications**:

- Positive attitude and willingness to learn.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to follow instructions clearly and work independently.
- Strong work ethic and commitment to hygiene standards.
- Basic understanding of kitchen safety procedures.
- Level 2 Food Safety

**Job Types**: Full-time, Part-time, Temporary contract, Zero hours contract
Contract length: 10 weeks

Pay: £12.50-£13.50 per hour

Expected hours: 20 - 40 per week
