**Job Role and Knowledge**

Supporting Bids, Project teams and Campaigns within the Department being an important individual member for the manufacturing of the estimates and pricing of works which will formulate in being a valuable role within the team.

Estimating of project’s working hours, materials, and subcontractor costs. Ensuring all technical requirements are understood and delivered in accordance with the specifications. All estimates when delivered, have the correct Hours & costs, showing transparency and clear breakdowns.

Specific training will be provided to evolve into leading the estimates within specific projects.

The duties of this role include:

- Reading and interpretation of the client's ship repair scope of work. Fully understanding how this translates into a completed specification for the skilled trades or specialists to complete.
- Settling of all requirements and resources concerning the refit and / or retrofit on ships for every task within the specification (drydocking services, surface preparation and painting, steelworks, piping, machinery, electrical, hydraulics, outfitting, electronics, lifesaving equipment and any other area required)
- Developing detailed scope of work job steps for every task / project being estimated.
- Timely preparation of complete tenders / quotations, including pricing sheets in various formats as well as online submissions concerning various ship repair enquiries in line with specifications and technical drawings received by the owners / clients.
- Liaising with subcontractors for outsourcing labour wherever required, requesting quotations from suppliers and subcontractors, acquiring advantageous prices upon thorough analysis and comparison of their tenders.
- Raising queries with the customer whenever further information is required or attending ship visits when necessary, to view the repair specification requirements.
- Understand the relevant outputs within the estimate development to other CL Stakeholders like Production, Planning & Procurement. Understand the boundary requirements of the correct costings and the effect this has on the CL stakeholders.
- Preparing paperwork and taking part in governance meetings with Directors.
- Preparing and completion of multiple variation orders for additional and emergent refit repairs to support the ship manager when required.
- Liaising with the ship managers to clarify / analyse the project's working technical details and allowances included in the estimate breakdown.
- Monitoring of project's out turn of costs looking at purchase orders for materials / contractors as well as the actual labour summaries.
- Take part in project handover and washup meetings with planning / production departments. Development and continual improvements will always happen.
- As a training aid, carry out visits on board vessels within the yard to validate estimated values and job steps. Capturing alignment of costs against actual work within the correct skill set.

- Commercial awareness with the ability to build strong meaningful relationships at all levels
- Positive attitude and strong team orientation
- Confident with working with high volume of data and present in a logical manner
- Excellent Microsoft Skills, including Excel, PowerPoint and Word
- Must be able to support other departments and communicate with customers, sub-contractors and suppliers, project management teams and production
- Good working knowledge of ship repair, shipbuilding and/or heavy engineering
- Achieved/ability to achieve BPSS/SC Clearance

**The Person**
- As continued professional development, enrol on an engineering course if available or via remote learning (time requirements and costs to be defined).
- Ongoing evolution and Improvement of the Commercial ship repair database and development of the RFA Estimate database. This is critical for future development of the whole department.
- Three monthly interval assessments to monitor training progress & development. Undertaken by departmental head and Lead estimator. Evaluate progress and required development. Record for the duration of the training period. (3-year Proposal).
