- Relevant experience of acting as pastoral support for children and young people as part of a team;
- Working with safeguarding policies, practices and risk assessments.
- Experience of working with children and young people of multiple ages;
- Experience of working with children and young people in a residential setting;
- First Aid training

**Skills and Knowledge**
- Safeguarding in education contexts;
- Skills and confidence in communicating with people from a diverse range of backgrounds;
- Effective problem-solving skills;
- Able to remain calm and clear thinking under pressure;
- Outstanding organisational skills and time management.
- An understanding and interest in Folk Music

**About the role of **Pastoral Team Member** at Sage Gateshead**

Folkworks Summer School is a fantastic opportunity for young musicians to work alongside leading professional musicians to learn about folk music, take part in creative music-making, and meet other young musicians. The pastoral team are essential in making sure the residential is safe, successful, and secure. They are responsible for overseeing the health and wellbeing of the young people. The team will plan and lead games and activities, support the young musicians to focus on their music-making during workshops, and make sure young people get the most out of their week in a positive and safe environment.

Pastoral staff members will stay on site at The Sill, Northumberland, throughout the week, and accommodation and food will be provided. The pastoral team, working alongside the Folkworks Summer School Producer, will be responsible for the children and young people throughout the whole course and be on duty throughout, including overnight. The team will work together to make sure there are breaks for each member of the team throughout the residential.

**Main Duties and Responsibilities**
- Take responsibility for the health, safety and wellbeing of all children and young people attending Folkworks Summer School;
- Support with the smooth running and overall organisation of the week;
- Implement safeguarding policies and procedures to maintain high standards of safeguarding and pastoral care of children and adults at risk; including:

- Safeguarding policies and procedures
- Risk assessment procedures
- Accident & incident reporting procedures
- Maintain appropriate levels of supervision as outlined by the Folkworks Summer School Producer;
- Represent Sage Gateshead to the highest professional standards in all aspects of the work undertaken;
- Attend necessary training, meetings and debriefs;
- Support and lead wider activities, such as games, team building and other ‘free time’ activities;
- Complete daily and / or summary reports where necessary and requested of you;
- To accept appropriate individual responsibility for the observance, promotion and implementation of Health and Safety, Child protection, Equality and Diversity and other policies within the Trust;
- Undertake other duties appropriate to the post and in line with the needs of the organisation.
