Hgv Driver

Ashton Recruitment require an HGV Driver for our client based in Craigavon.

Position: HGV Driver

Location: Craigavon

Duration: Temporary for at least 6 months

Rate of Pay: £12.07 per hour.

Hours of Work: 37 hours per week, Monday - Friday 8.00am - 15.54pm

Duties will include (but not be limited to):

- Drive, operate and be responsible for allocated vehicle and any authorised passengers. Ensure that the vehicle is safely maneuvered on the daily route.
- Ensure public and crew members are alerted in relation to road safety hazards during operations.
- Comply with Road Traffic Act and all relevant driving regulations.
- Adhere to appropriate driving guidelines - driver daily checks, accidents procedure and drivers’ procedures, etc. To observe all vehicles servicing instructions issued and complete all duties involved. In the event of a breakdown, to notify the Supervisor and/or garage immediately.
- Responsible for the care and daily maintenance including pre and post operational checks, defect reporting, cleaning of vehicles and equipment as assigned. To complete daily record sheets in relation to mileage, fuels, defects etc, and return to the relevant Supervisor daily.
- In the absence of regular crew members to advise and direct non-regular crew members on daily routes.
- Liaise with the Senior Recycling Operative and/or Supervisor concerning the daily route and in so far as is possible ensure that it is followed.
- Help as required with any promotional activities designed to encourage the public to recycle, including personal contact with the public, leaflet drops, attachment of bin stickers, etc and help with any public survey work as required.
- Safely collect/load bulky items of household waste, and transport to the designated transfer/disposal site.
- Separate items of recyclable material such as electrical appliances and dispose of appropriately.
- Liaise with occupiers to arrange time of collection and identify hazards

Essential Criteria:

- Digital Tachograph Card
- DVTA Driver Qualification Card
- Two years’ experience driving HGV vechiles
- Full current driving licence (valid in the UK) including entitlement to drive Category C vehicles (over 3500kg)
- Effective communication skills;
- Effective team working;
- Ability to provide excellent customer service;
- Interest in environmental matters.

Desirable Criteria
- Six months’ experience in an outdoor waste management environment
