**Job summary**:
An exciting opportunity has arisen for 2 full time Band 6 Clinical Physiologists (Neurophysiology), in a dynamic and busy department at the regional Neuroscience centre at the New Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham (QEHB). Neurophysiology QEHB is largely a non-paediatric department with integral involvement in epilepsy surgery program as well as delivering a comprehensive spinal cord monitoring service at the QEHB and The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital and Birmingham Children's Hospital.

You will be expected to participate in the on-call service. There may be a requirement to work away from the main site.

BSc Clinical Physiology (Neurophysiology) or equivalent

**Main duties, tasks & skills required**:

- Prepare the environment for recording of neurophysiological procedures.
- Perform routine, sleep, ward, intensive care and 24 - hour EEGs independently and to a high quality, according to departmental protocols including annotation of the record as appropriate.
- Scanning Ambulatory-EEG under supervision
- Prepare patients for Evoked Potential (EP) tests, Carpal Tunnel Screening (CTS) and Electromyography (EMG) clinics.
- Perform routine EP tests to include somatosensory, visual and brainstem auditory evoked potentials.
- Perform non-complex peripheral neurophysiology (CTS) and produce a report. Record findings as appropriate to the referral and recognise the need for additional testing which may need doing by a senior physiologist or consultant.
- Assist consultants in EMG clinics.
- Remove electrodes from the patient and clean the applied area if necessary.
- Tend to their individual needs where necessary whilst maintaining dignity when in the care of the department and always showing empathy.

**Qualifications**:
**Essential**:

- BSc (Hons) Clinical Physiology or equivalent formal specialist training plus additional training to post graduate diploma or equivalent level of knowledge.
- Current registration with RCCP / HCPC
- Evidence of CPD.

**Experience**:
**Essential**:

- Experience in neurophysiology.
- Experience in performing a full range of complex investigations in all modalities.
- Experience in performing EEG and EP.
- Experience in the teaching / training of others.
- Experience in handling investigation requests and determining priority.
- Knowledge of a full range of physiology procedures.
- Knowledge if IT systems and keyboard skills e.g. Microsoft Word, Teams, Excel.

**Desirable**:

- Experience of Video Telemetry

**Additional Criteria**:
**Essential**:

- Able to analyse data and produce high quality and accurate technical reporting of test results.
- Ability to communicate with patients, relatives, and all levels of staff throughout the organisation.
- Ability to perform a wide range of Neurophysiological investigations.
- Ability to work autonomously, co-ordinate, plan and prioritise.
- Good IT skills, ability to analyse data and produce Word documents.
- Ability to interpret specialist investigation results and patient conditions
- Able to undertake complex hand to eye-hand co-ordination tasks such as electrode placement and dexterity and co-ordination for use of diagnostic equipment.
- Ability to work extended hours as required or flexible hours depending on service needs eg monitoring, EEG'S, Polysomnography PSG'S.
- Able to take part in the on call rota.
- Able to travel across all UHB sites as required.
