**Nursery Practitioner**

**Responsibilities**
- To comply with group policies and procedures and regulatory requirements.
- To be involved in planning suitable activities and implementation in accordance with current curriculum practice (Curriculum for Excellence, HGIOELC self-evaluation, Pre-Birth to Three: Positive Outcomes for Scotland’s Children and Families and Getting it Right for Every Child, SHANARRI H&S Care Standards Realising the Ambition) and the nursery improvement plan.
- To ensure children’s individual learning needs are supported and that each child’s progress is recorded as required through documentation and learning journals.
- To work as a team member sharing tasks with other staff.
- To liaise with parents and other agencies as required (Universal Support.)
- To provide a safe, warm and positive environment adhering to health and safety regulations and risk assessing.

**Accountability**
- Staff should be familiar and meet the standards set by the Scottish Social Services Council, and ensure registration is renewed.
- To be familiar with the Care Inspectorate Regulations.
- To be familiar with and operate the nurseries policies and procedures.
- To be familiar with the health and safety regulations, risk assessment for the nursery activities and the safety of children and staff.
- To ensure that a welcoming environment is created for the children and parents/ carers.
- To ensure that equality of experience is promoted in the nursery indoor and outdoors.
- To attend regular planning meeting and contribute to written plans with identified learning outcomes
- As a member of the staff
- team share plan a range of suitable curriculum based activities.
- To involve the children in planning activities.
- To take part in reviewing practice and evaluation of the service with staff colleagues.
- Identifying changes to practice and new developments.
- To contribute to the nursery improvement plan.

**General**

**You are expected to**:

- Act as a representative for your Nursery and Company, promoting a professional image at all times.
- Show a willingness to undertake additional roles to meet the needs of the Nursery,

Children and colleagues.
- Update your job knowledge, through access to company and local training showing

Commitment to continual professional development and cascading of information.
- Complete all mandatory training within timescales and to standards set.
- Maintain a professional approach, behaviour and confidentiality at all times.
- Work matters should not be discussed outside the nursery premises or in a social context.
- Support other rooms, this may include working with different age groups

at your Manager’s discretion.

Any other duties as required by management.

**STAFF**
- To participate in staff meetings.
- Share details, skills and resources with other members of staff.
- To listen to other members of members of staff and be aware of other people’s feelings.
- To ensure that training is continued and documented in their personal development folders.
- Pass on any relevant information regarding the welfare of a child to others if necessary.
- Liaison with outside agencies when required with relevance to SHANARRI/ GIRFEC/UNIVERSAL SUPPORT.

**PARENTS**
- To build a trusting relationship with parents, so that they will feel comfortable discussing any problems or issues.
- To keep parents informed of their child’s development and progress.
- To take part in parent’s nights.
