**Job summary**:
Due to a re-organisation and transformation of the Business Group we are recruiting several posts across each of the teams above:

- Head of Infrastructure & Construction (I&C)
- Head of Renewables & Transition (R&T)
- Head of Small Deals & Emerging Sectors (SDES)

These posts are all both technical and leadership roles within each of the teams and are generic by nature with the stakeholder group and customer base providing the nuances within each role.

Each postholder will report to the Head of CIE, each Head is responsible for leading their team delivering UKEF’s transactions related to these sectors and has primary responsibility for the wide range of client and stakeholder relationships. They will also participate in, and contribute to, the corporate management of UKEF through membership of the Senior Leadership Team.

**Job description**:

- Industry lead and operational head of underwriting for all team transactions (_for the Head of SDES - underwriting for all Standard Buyer Loan Guarantee (SBLG) and Bills & Notes Guarantee (BNG) transactions, and for UKEF support in new emerging sectors_), with specific responsibility for leading and ensuring the following, including delivering through the team:

- New business enquiries/client engagement: both where these come to the team directly, and working in close collaboration with Origination colleagues where they are in the lead;
- Progressing the underwriting of transaction efficiently and effectively in compliance with UKEF’s statute, international obligations, Departmental policies and practices, risk standards etc, and ensuring full and effective management of our reinsurance relationships;
- Allocating resources to meet the needs of the work of the team, with specific responsibility for:

- Ensuring there are sufficient staff resources with the necessary knowledge, skill and experience to deliver the team’s work;
- Operating the performance management system in accordance with Departmental Policy;
- Personally coaching, mentoring and developing staff with the aim of continuous improvement in their current roles, broadening and deepening skills and experience throughout the Business Group in relation to I&C, R&T and SDES matters;
- Management of I&C, R&T and SDES training and development to ensure the identification and management of talent at each level; and
- The appropriate delegation of work at all levels to create rewarding and appropriately challenging jobs and contributing to the goal of making UKEF a great place to work.
- Acting as the senior underwriter responsible for ensuring cases involving novel or contentious cover propositions, environmental, legal, documentation, compliance or credit issues are appropriately handled and that senior staff/Ministers are briefed as necessary.
- On an exceptional basis, leading cases for direct reports where resourcing is not available.
- Senior ownership of operational relationships with exporters, investors, banks, trade associations, other government Departments, ECAs and their ministry authorities as they relate to the I&C, R&T and SDES sectors and mission.
- As required, deputising for the Head of CIE at cross-Whitehall and industry events.

Experience of negotiating terms and conditions in documentation.
