**Job description**
The Information Appraisal team within Defra’s Data and Information Lifecycle team is looking for an Information Appraiser to join their team based in Alnwick office.
As a central government department Defra is statutorily required by the Public Records Act to have in place a systematic approach to managing its records, and for identifying and transferring historical public records to The National Archives (TNA) for permanent preservation in line with the 20 Year Rule.

**Responsibilities**
Actively contribute to the delivery of the annual appraisal programme by:
- Conducting detailed research, interrogation of file lists and some physical file examination
- Redacting and declassifying sensitive information
- Cataloguing information selected for transfer to TNA
**Skills and Experience**
- The ability to make sound professional decisions based on research and the understanding of information-related legislation.
- Analytical skills demonstrating an eye for detail.
- Experience of records handling or management
