Petworth Places is made up of several teams of dedicated people building a destination hospitality and food and beverage business with Eat, Stay, Event at the heart of the business. Our core businesses are located in the beautiful South Downs market town of Petworth, West Sussex, and the historic market town of West Malling in Kent.
Established in 2010, the group comprises a multiple-award-winning food brand, The Hungry Guest (a double winner of UK delicatessen and farm shop of the year), E Street Bar & Grill, and The Angel Inn (with seven upmarket guest rooms and two luxury holiday apartment/villas - Ryde House and East House). The group also includes Augustus Brandt, an interiors and antiques business, and Newlands House Gallery, an exciting gallery and exhibition space.
Our accolades include E Street Bar and Grill being awarded best restaurant in the South East in 2019 and The Angel Inn being awarded best pub in West Sussex in 2022. E Street Bar and Grill joined the global Chaine des Rotisseurs in 2022.
In 2019 we established a new wedding venue and events business which is growing steadily and in 2022 we launched our wine series events at E Street Bar and Grill, which has been a great success.
**About the Role**
The role of the Artisan Baker /Pastry Chef is to be responsible for the efficient and smooth running of the production of sweet product, encompassing the manufacture of these products, stock control, food safety, recipe development and improvement while ensuring that company standards, policies and procedures are maintained.
**Primary Duties**
- Preparing and producing our range of Hungry Guest products in line with customer demand.
- Developing a kitchen culture with a positive ‘can do’ attitude.
- Managing and scheduling the kitchen to enable growth of the business, adapting to seasonal peaks.
- Developing strong relationships with the bakery, admin and packing team to ensure the orders are executed in an accurate and timely manner.
- Ensuring that systems are transparent and that there is full traceability.
- Being responsible for product accuracy and legal compliance.
- Ensuring that the kitchen is run in an efficient manner that will optimise costs.
- To plan and organise production schedules to maximise efficiency and quality.
- Contribute with new and exciting products.
- To be able to produce the full range of breads for delivery to our internal and external customers.
- To be able to identify issues and adjust recipes accordingly to achieve a high-quality product.
- To understand each element of bread making from yeast growth, ingredient selection, bread mixing, kneading, shaping, proving and baking to achieve desired results.
- Have an understanding and use IT systems in Bakery correctly to enable orders to be fulfilled.
- Being responsible for product accuracy and legal compliance.
- Ensuring that instructions from the senior team are followed for the Bakery to run in an efficient manner that will optimise costs.
**Experience and Qualifications**
- A minimum of 2 years working in a production kitchen or similar.
- The ability to demonstrate strong people development and leadership skills.
- A knowledge of the science of batch cooking.
Desired Qualifications / Skills:
- Food Safety L3
- HACCP Certificate

**HOURS**:45 Hours per week, 5 out of 7 days
