**SUMMARY OF ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (SoRR)**

**CADET FORCE ADULT VOLUNTEER (CFAV)**

**Introduction**

A Cadet Force Adult Volunteer (CFAV) is recommended for appointment via the chain of command to the Area Officer (AO) by the Commanding Officer/Officer-in-Charge (CO/OiC) and Unit Chair (UC) to enable the Sea Cadet Experience (SCE)

**Time in Post**

As a unit based CFAV, there is no specified time in post for this role. The CFAV and the CO/OiC/UC are to agree on a flexible commitment and to review this regularly, as part of their annual review and personal development plan.

**The Role**

Each Sea Cadet Unit is a self-supporting youth organisation and an individually registered Charity. The management and control of a Sea Cadet Unit is a team effort between the Unit Management Committee led by the (UC) and the Instructional team led by the CO/OiC. These two groups of volunteers have specific responsibilities as explained in their SoRR. The CO/OiC and UC are helped in their duties by CFAV/s instructional and non-instructional.

This role will undertake “regulated activity” and will therefore require an enhanced disclosure with barring check to be repeated at no less than three yearly intervals.

**Primary Purpose**

The primary purpose of the CFAV is to assist in the development of young people as

Individuals and active citizens by providing safe and rewarding training, direction and guidance.

**Secondary Purposes**

The secondary purposes of a CFAV are:
 Maintain the Sea Cadet Corps (SCC) values

 Assist the Unit Training Officer (UTO) to plan a varied training programme.

 Safely and securely maintain the unit’s resources and equipment.

**Accountability**

A unit based CFAV is directly accountable to:
 The CO/OiC for their compliance with the regulations, policies and procedures.

 When on away from the Unit, on SCC authorised activity, CFAV/s may become functionally accountable for local activities to local individuals e.g. Course OiC, Training Centre manager or officers in charge of other events. Accountability on such occasions will be documented in the relevant Training Centre, Camp or event instructions.

**Authority**

The CFAV is authorised to:
 In conjunction with the CO/OiC liaise with District and Area volunteers in relevant disciplines.

**Competencies**

This section will be completed once the Competence, Role and Rank work is concluded.

**Principal Tasks**

The following are the principal tasks of the CFAV but the list is not exhaustive:
 Promote and safeguard cadet’s welfare.

 Ensure compliance with the MSSC’s Child Protection Policy and Guidance documentation. Reporting any concerns to the Unit CO / UC or in their absence the MSSC Incident line.

 Delivering instruction, training supervision of Sea Cadet adults and cadets as approved by the Commanding Officer.

 Application of the MSSC Health and Safety Policy and associated documentation.

 Ensure SCC equipment is safe to use, properly maintained and secure in line with policy.

 Keep any personal qualifications in date and be aware of current good practice.

 If qualified, induct and carry out site-specific training for other CFAV/s.
- In conjunction with the Unit Administration Officer, update cadet record and qualifications.
- Facilitate cadet access and promote the SCC Portal.

 In conjunction with the UTO, direct cadets and adults to District, Area or National courses to further personal and unit development.

 Any other activity or task as specified at Unit, District, Area or National level.

**Performance Review**

The CO/OiC will undertake an annual review of volunteer performance, including personal development plans.
