Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to appoint Consultant Radiologists with a special interest, particularly Uroradiology, Thoracic/cardiac Radiology, Gastrointestinal radiology or Breast Radiology but this can be discussed on an individual basis. Applicants for the role of Specialty doctor with an interest in breast radiology would also be welcome.

The post holder will be joining a team of 12.5 whole time equivalent Consultants who provide radiological services to our patients supported by 7 whole time speciality Registrars. This is further supported by reporting radiographers and sonographers.

The on-call commitment is currently 1 in 18 for weekday evenings across the trust and one in every 9 weekends. (Weekends usually split between 2 consultants). Overnight between 8.00pm and 8.00am will be directly referred to a Teleradiology company. The local consultant being second on call.

We manage three major locality hospitals at North Tyneside, Wansbeck and Hexham, plus a number of smaller community hospitals and clinics from Tynemouth to Berwick on Tweed, in addition to our state-of-the-art Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital, the first of its kind in England. We also care for people in their homes and provide services from facilities in local communities such as health centres. We give people greater choice and control over their care to help them to live independently at home and avoid hospital admission where appropriate. High quality patient care is at the heart of everything we do and we strive to ensure every single patient and service user has an exceptional experience with us. We have one of the most extensive patient experience programmes of any trust in England.

We are seeking excellent Clinicians who thrive in the busy environment of a Radiology Department, providing our consultant of session which allows other clinical specialists direct contact with a radiologist.

Radiology at the Trust

We have plain film, CT and MRI (provided by InHealth) at our 4 main sites, The Northumbria specialist hospital and the 3 General hospitals, plus smaller radiology at community sites to support the minor injury units.

The Trust has an active Teaching role and the post holder would be expected to have a modest role in the education of medical students and doctors in training.

We have a Research and Development department and research and clinical audit is encouraged within the radiology department working with other specialities to explore new technologies and patient care linking with radiology.
