**Brief overview**

To fulfil the role of a Key Person, this being, to ensure that every child’s learning and care is tailored to meet their individual needs. To help settle a child at nursery and to build a relationship with the parents/ carer. To engage and support parents/carers in guiding their child’s development at home.

**What will the apprentice be doing?**

The Job Holder will be expected to be fully committed to the established policies and statements of this nursery, and to use these policies as a code of practise in their daily duties.

To acknowledge that the safety of the children in the group is paramount, and to be guided and directed by the Nursery Manager or Officer in Charge, in the care and development of the children.

To provide a caring and welcoming environment for all children and parents of the group.

To ensure that the cultural backgrounds of the children are recognised and reflected in the group.

To attend staff meetings.

To participate in training as required.

To maintain and take care of all Nursery equipment.

**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES.**

**To work as part of a team.**

**To share**:
a) The daily hygiene and order of the Nursery rooms, equipment and toys.

b) The responsibility of meeting the needs and requirements of all the children in the group.

c) The duties in accordance to the Nursery rotas for the staffing of rooms, free time, nappy changing and circle times. To provide support to other staff so as to ensure the effective running of the Nursery.

d) Maintaining the Nursery displays and boards reflecting children’s work and current interests.

e) The planning of daily activities within the group to meet children’s identified and developmental needs.

f) The communication of information to senior staff as well as to parents on a daily basis.

To complete observations, small group plans (adult focus) and Individual Educational Plans as required by the nursery curriculum. To evaluate plans and link children’s needs to future plans and IEP’s. To be directed by the Nursery Manager effectively providing activities appropriate to the developmental needs of each individual child in their key group with respect for their social, emotional, intellectual and physical needs.

To maintain, monitor and record individual profiles reflecting the progress and development of all children in their key group. To speak/feedback to parents on a daily basis where possible, to write reports and meet with parents to share information; at settling in time (6 weeks after starting), the 2 year old review (if appropriate, during the child’s first term) the annual achievement record (end of academic year).

Functional skills in maths and English (if required)

**What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?**

Full-time role considered on completion of apprenticeship.

**About the employer**

Pavilion Nursery is a 30-place setting offering a variety of day care for children ages 2-5 years and is committed to its all inclusive policy. The Nursery staff are qualified Early Years Practitioners and highly experienced in this field. They are led by the Manager who holds a degree in Early Years Education and has Professional Person Status. The staff team consists of eight full-time staff and our Nursery Cook. The whole team share in the delivery of our policies and curriculum, and are committed to participate in on-going training in order to achieve this. The Nursery is regulated by Ofsted and uses the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) from Birth to Five Framework as a statutory guidance. The Nursery recognises the great importance of helping your child get ready for school as well as for their future learning and successes. The aim of our curriculum is to offer children carefully planned rich and stimulating experiences through play, making learning fun and exciting. Staff will do this by observing children at play, planning and evaluating. The children are encouraged to integrate and mix by use of free-flow play indoors and out. We use a range of different teaching methods, with a balanced mixture of activities; some adult-led, some child-initiated.
