**About The Role**:
**MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB**:
As an Independent Assessor you will report to the Registered Manager. Your role will be to complete Parenting Capacity assessments using the ParentAssess model. This will be within a foster placement setting and within a residential setting.

There are no guaranteed hours with this role, where you will be required to work on a self-employed basis and assessments will be allocated on an ad hoc basis.

The key aspect of the work requirement is to complete a full ParentAssess assessment with Parent and Child placements in Community placements and Residential Placements.

You will be required to follow the ParentAssess structure to your assessment, and the schedule of works, while using the ParentAssess tools and a range of other appropriate tools to actively work with each Parent to complete a comprehensive assessment of parenting capacity.

The Parent and Child policy and procedure handbook and Schedule of Works outlines the guidance and requirements of Independent Assessors completing ParentAssess assessments with Parent and Child placements. It is essential you familiarize yourself with both documents and your signature to this agreement indicates you have reviewed such documents.
- You must have a Social Work Qualification
- You must be registered with Social Work England/or Social Work Wales
- All Independent Assessing Social Workers will be required to sign an Assessment Agreement and will be expected to adhere to the schedule of work.
- Independent Assessing Social Workers **Must** have completed 2-day ParentAssess training and possess the required skills prior to completing the full ParentAssess Parenting Capacity assessment.
- Independent Assessing Social Workers should attend the Initial Parent and Child planning meeting with the Referring Authority, Parent(s), Supervising Social Worker, and Foster Carer.
- Independent Assessing Social Workers should attend the 2-week, 6 week and 10-week review meetings with the Referring Authority, Parent(s), Supervising Social Worker, and Foster Carer.
- Independent Assessing Social Workers must follow the ParentAssess structure to their assessment, using the ParentAssess tools and a range of other appropriate tools to actively work with the Parent to complete a comprehensive assessment of parenting capacity.
- Independent Assessing Social Workers are responsible for liaising with the allocated Supervising Social Worker on a monthly basis, as a minimum to report on the progress of Parental support and development and the overall progress of the assessment.
- Independent Assessing Social Workers should have weekly discussions with the foster carer, to gain an understanding of the development progress an ongoing support needs of the Parent(s) to inform their assessment.
- Independent Assessing Social Workers must complete a minimum of 4 direct observations.
- Independent Assessing Social Workers will be required to have weekly progress and support meetings with Parent(s).
- Independent Assessing Social Workers should complete a minimum of 8 visits.
- Independent Assessing Social Workers should provide evidence in court pertaining to the completed report, if required.
- Independent Assessing Social Workers should be aware of the preferred specific learning needs of the Parent(s) and tailor their approach accordingly.
- Independent Assessing Social Workers have shared responsibility for ongoing assessment of risk.
- Independent Assessing Social Workers must liaise with an agency or Supervising Social Worker as a matter of urgency where safeguarding concerns have been raised.
- Independent Assessing Social Workers must liaise with the agency or Supervising Social Worker as a matter of urgency where a Parent(s) has broken the terms of the agreement.
- Independent Assessing Social Workers must complete a Closure Report if 1 to 2 visits are undertaken and sent to the Registered Manager within three working Days.
- Independent Assessing Social Workers must attend the initial allocation meeting with the Family Assessment Team.
- Independent Assessing Social Workers must complete the relevant midway summary and attend the midway meeting with the assessment supervisor from the Family Assessment Team.
- Independent Assessing Social Workers must gather relevant information and complete a file read as required.
- You must have Professional Indemnity Insurance
- You must be registered as self-employed with HRMC.
- You will be required to have a DBS check for the agency, however a DBS registered with the Update Service will be accepted following review of your paper certificate.If you do not have a DBS on the Update Service, Compass will pay the fee for the DBS.
- It is the Company preference that you sign up to the Update Service. However, should you choose not to do this a DBS check will be completed by the company every 3 years in line with Company policy.The cost of the DBS will be deducted from your next fee.
