**What you’ll be doing**:
Ensuring that we have a **resilient supply of water** now and in the future whilst also** protecting and enhancing the environment is a core goal for Thames Water**, and this role plays a key role in achieving this.
This role is a fixed-term contract (up to 18 months) as maternity cover for the **Environmental Specialist within the Water Resources team.**
The primary duty of the Water Resources team is to produce and maintain the Water Resources Management Plan (WRMP), a plan which we are required by law to produce and in which we must demonstrate how we will ensure a reliable supply of water in the long-term, taking into account the challenges of climate change, population growth, and the need to protect and enhance the environment.
In producing the WRMP there is a need to undertake a wide range of environmental assessment and appraisal. This includes assessments which ensure that the interventions which we are proposing are compliant with environmental legislation (e.g., the design of new reservoirs or pipelines would comply with SEA, HRA, WFD and INNS legislation), and appraisal activity to ensure that the combination of interventions selected in our plan is best value, when considering costs and environmental impacts.
**We are looking for you to**
- Be educated to degree level in a relevant topic (e.g., Environmental Science, Ecology, Biology, Geography)
- Have knowledge of key environmental legislation or strong knowledge of the UK Water Resources Planning framework
- Have excellent communication skills (verbal and written), being able to communicate complex topics with technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Be able to demonstrate excellent stakeholder and project management skills
