This is a key position in the school supporting the work of the SENDCO. The successful applicant will be enthusiastic, flexible, well organised and able to work as part of a team as well as having the ability to work alone when required.

**JOB DESCRIPTION**

**PURPOSE OF THE JOB**:
Support the SENDCo in running the department

Take a lead in managing the LSA Team

Deliver lessons to small groups to support their learning needs

**EXAMPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- To assist and Deputise for the SENDco where required
- To line manage the LSA Team, observing activities and completing appropriate paperwork such as return to work, appraisal and probation processes where required.
- To assist and work alongside teaching colleagues in working with students to secure progress.
- To support the Sendco and intervention team to identify and evaluate the most appropriate support for vulnerable students and those at risk of underachievement or exclusion.
- To lead on our school’s Dyslexia strategy and carry out Dyslexia Screenings.
- To lead English as an Additional Language provision.
- To take part when required in supporting 1:1 tuition, small group work and in supporting examination needs.
- To facilitate the sharing of relevant information with parents and between other support services as required, and to attend meetings with external agencies as appropriate.
- To use your area(s) of expertise to contribute to the planning and preparation of learning activities.
- To deliver interventions where required.
- To support other staff by contributing to the selection and preparation of resources suitable for students with SEND’s interests and abilities.
- Using school systems and procedures to record and assess SEND provision for students.
- Take responsibility for identified students:

- Working with Colleagues and Students who need Makaton for learning.
- Working with LSA’s to devise appropriate strategies,
- Chairing annual meetings in line with County Annual Review Meetings
- Attending Year 5 and 6 transition reviews for students joining the school, completing appropriate paperwork.
- Liaising with parents and external agencies, ensuring accurate records are maintained.

These duties are neither exclusive nor exhaustive and the post holder may be required by the Headteacher to carry out appropriate duties within the context of their job, skill or grade.
