**Driver Training Instructor**

**Salary**: £34,834 to 36,648 to per annum (Grade 9)

**Full Time**: 37 hours per week (role requires some evening and weekend working)

**Location**:
Based at North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service Training Centre Easingwold YO61 3FA.

**Description**

This is an exciting opportunity to become part of the North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service driver training section. The role will involve training new drivers (Category C) to gain their initial qualification. Instructing and assessing students on initial emergency response driving and performing reassessments of existing drivers (both Category B&C). We also have a range of specialist vehicles, aerial ladder platforms, hook arm modular units, 4x4 vehicles for off road driving and response cars.
- Provide driver training to meet the Service Driving Policy on all types of service vehicles.
- Ensure that the statutory and operational requirements for safe competent drivers are met.
- Assess driving standards and to provide appropriate feedback to develop driver skills throughout the service to enhance a safe working environment.

**Mandatory criteria**
- Registered or working towards DVSA Approved Driving Instructor, Grade 4 or above or Grade A or B if DVSA Standards Check completed post April 2014.
- A full UK driving licence (maximum of six penalty points) with Category C held for a minimum 5 years.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the “Highway Code”.
- Be competent in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point.

**Desirable criteria**
- Be an active member of the National Fire Chiefs Council Emergency Response Driving forum and ERD Register Members Group.
- Level 3 Adult Education / Teaching qualification.
- Assessor qualification.
- IOSH award managing safely
- Comprehensive knowledge of “Roadcraft” the Police Drivers Handbook.
- Experience in emergency response driving from UK Police, Fire or Ambulance Service.
- A valid NFCC Emergency Response Driving Instructor licence (vehicle cat. B & C).

**You are**:

- Able to work on your own initiative with good organisational and time management skills and as part of a team.
- Experienced in delivering and designing training interventions for a range of driving levels and vehicle groups.
- Able to prioritise your workload and plan and re-schedule as necessary to meet changing requirements.
- Able to demonstrate excellent communication skills to produce user guidelines and keep accurate records.
- Be flexible in your approach to delivering training.
- Your behaviours reflect the Fire Service Core Code of Ethics.

**Other Information**:

- You will be required to travel to any location within North Yorkshire to deliver training.
- The role involves some evening and weekend working including night driving when delivering modules in the emergency response driving course.
- A Disclosure & Barring Service Check DBS Enhanced clearance will be undertaken on the successful individual prior to offer of employment.
- Use of your own vehicle may be required for traveling to appointments; however a service vehicle should be used if available.
