**Overview of the job**
The Office of the Public Guardian (OPG) is an Executive Agency of the Ministry of Justice (MoJ), responsible for registering Lasting Powers of Attorney and supervising deputies who are appointed by the Court of Protection. Lasting Powers of Attorney gives people the power to choose who will be their voice and act in their best interests if they lose the ability to make certain decisions for themselves. Our vision is to make lasting powers of attorney accessible, affordable, and essential for future planning.

- The role advertised is an administrative position to work primarily within the L&D team in a support worker role, aiding a visually impaired member of staff in providing assistance when accessibility barriers are encountered, such as reading out printed materials and using inaccessible digital media and software, and support in navigating and operating in unfamiliar environments (guiding, reading signage etc.).- Responsibilities, Activities & Duties include but are not limited to:
- Assisting in the interpretation and use of inaccessible media, software, and digital platforms (e.g., reading out aloud from presentations, documentation, and printed materials, describing graphics and the creation of accessible documents using existing materials).
- Scheduling and booking rooms for meetings and events.
- General management of calendars and schedules.
- Facilitating training sessions (including monitoring Microsoft Teams chat when delivering virtually or handing out materials in face-to-face learning scenarios).
- Supporting the member of staff in their learning for an L&D apprenticeship.
- Attend meetings as appropriate (with occasional travel to Nottingham and other MoJ offices). Provide support to meetings as required including organising agenda, taking, and distributing notes/minutes and action points
- Guiding the member of staff in unfamiliar environments (e.g., certain areas of the office, cafés, railway stations etc.).
- Assisting member of staff in dynamic social environments, such as meetings, conferences, and other events (e.g., identifying colleagues in the room, reading, and communicating body language etc.).
- Aiding the editing of audio-visual media.
- Converting inaccessible documentation into accessible formats.
- To work within the aims and values of OPG.
**Essential and Desirable Criteria**
**Essential**:
Previous experience of using business or organisational IT systems/websites and working knowledge of Microsoft Teams and Microsoft Office packages including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
Clear communicator with good verbal, written, data entry and telephone skills ensuring accuracy and attention to detail
Well-developed time management and organisational skills, able to work on own initiative, organising and prioritising own workload to set deadlines
Ability to work effectively as part of a team, understanding commitment to equality of opportunity
Problem solving skills
**Desirable**:
Experience of supporting visually impaired individuals in a work environment.
Has an understanding of ADHD.
