Oswestry, United Kingdom The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Foundation Trust Full time

This is a training position and will suit an individual who might have been considering completing their Health and Social Care training in college.

This is an opportunity to undertake training, whilst experiencing the job you are being trained for.

You will be given 6 hrs a week to undertake study once enrolled onto your course. It is expected you will have completed all elements of the training prior to the end of the 18 month fixed term contract.

There is a 12 hour shift pattern predominantly Monday -Friday

You will be working on Alice Ward, which is a 16 bedded Orthopaedic Children's ward that cares for children requiring orthopaedic surgery and rehabilitation, as well as a weekly community dental list. The children's outpatient department runs both orthopaedic and general children's clinics and you will assist in the smooth running of these outpatient clinics.

We would expect you to have good communication skills, and a genuine interest in supporting children in a hospital environment.

As part of your training you will be taught how to care for the child before and after their operation, as well as encouraging and supporting the children and their parents throughout their rehabilitation. The facilitation of play is key in most situations, as it assists with distraction and facilitates motivation in their rehab.

You will work alongside all members of the multidisciplinary team, which will include nurses, physio's, the play team and housekeepers to name a few.

As a team, cleanliness is at the heart of all we do and this also accounts for a large part of all the teams roles and responsibilities.

The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic NHS Trust (RJAH) is one of the leading orthopaedic hospitals in the country, with some of the highest levels of staff and patient satisfaction, as well as a strong reputation for research and innovation.

Joining RJAH is more than just a job - we want our people to have the best opportunities to thrive in their role.

We have a range of fantastic staff benefits on offer to everyone who joins RJAH and you'll have access to outstanding professional development opportunities and state-of-the-art facilities - including our recently-opened £6 million Headley Court Veterans’ Orthopaedic Centre (the first unit of its kind in the UK).

RJAH has strong links with a range of universities including Staffordshire, Keele, Glyndwr, Chester and Birmingham.

The hospital is located on a site outside Oswestry in Oswestry, just off the A5. The nearest train station is in Gobowen, approximately two miles from the hospital. The station is part of the Chester to Birmingham line.

We are based in North Shropshire, close to the border with North and Mid Wales. It is one of the most attractive parts of the country, with a rich historic culture and excellent transport links. It offers outstanding opportunities for anyone who enjoys an outdoor lifestyle or is looking to raise a family.

This is a training position for a children's Apprentice Health Care Assistant, and offers an opportunity to work within the NHS and gain the knowledge and fundamental skills required to provide good quality patient care, whilst achieving the Skills for Heath Care Certificate, which is reflected in the rates of pay.

Ideally you will have a level 2 in English and Maths, however this can also be obtained whilst undertaking the course.

Our aim is to aspire to deliver world class patient care, and we want talented, dedicated and passionate people to help us achieve this.

Our continued success is accomplished through the skills and expertise of our staff, which is underpinned by our values: Friendly, Caring, Excellence, Professional and Respect. If your values align to ours, and you would like to join us in aspiring to deliver world class patient care, we would love to hear from you.
