Do you have advanced/are working towards advanced level skills in neonates? We are looking for an experienced Speech and Language Therapist to join our team of specialist SLTs.

This post provides an excellent opportunity to enhance skills in the assessment and management of neonates with feeding and communication difficulties.

**You will have significant experience of**:

- Working in paediatric dysphagia, ideally in an acute setting supported by Post Basic Dysphagia Qualification or equivalent.
- Completion of HEE Foundation modules in Neonates with signed off competencies at Level C
- Knowledge of tracheostomy assessment and management and videofluoroscopy are desirable.

In addition, you will have excellent communication skills and be able to provide education, advice and support to patients, parents/carers and the wider staff team. You will have excellent organisational and time management skills, being able to prioritise a busy workload and coping well under pressure.
- work alongside other members of the Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) to give highly specialist guidance, advice and education to on matters relating to your specialist area.
- contribute to running and developing of the Speech and Language service through audit, development of policies, procedures and guidelines using evidence-based practise.
- To take responsibility for and demonstrate highly specialist skills in the holistic assessment, diagnosis and management of infants in the LNU, who present with communication & feeding/swallowing difficulties secondary to prematurity, neurological, developmental and respiratory conditions.

- As a highly specialist autonomous practitioner you will be professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of your work; including management of patients in your care and supporting colleagues to do likewise.
- To undertake a full and comprehensive assessment of a range of complex infants using highly advanced clinical reasoning skills and assessment techniques.
- To use advanced investigative and analytical skills to assess and develop diagnosis, utilising clinical and non-clinical information from a variety of sources (e.g. parent, carers, hospital notes and physical assessments). This may involve identifying and interpreting conflicting elements from different sources and discussing these in order to reduce the impact of communication and / or swallowing difficulties in everyday life
- To effectively utilise a wide range of complex verbal and non‑verbal communication to negotiate and engage with people across a diverse multicultural and intellectual spectrum. This may include particularly people with significant comprehension difficulties / communication disorders (e.g. blind, deaf, aphasia, cognitively impaired, English as an additional language or non-English speaking).
- To assess parents understanding of treatment proposals and gain valid informed consent. Also, be able to work within the legal framework with those who are unable to give informed consent.
- To use specialist knowledge of evidence-based practice and treatment options to formulate, initiate and deliver a tailored individual Speech and Language Therapy treatment programme. This will include a list of problems and goals, leading to an agreed comprehensive self-management and discharge plan.
- To be responsible for prioritising, planning and managing clinical caseloads while supervising junior staff and managing agreed responsibilities.
- To provide highly specialist advice, teaching and training to parents, members of the MDT within the scope of your own practice in Neonates. This may involve providing second opinions and highly specialist advice.
- To employ excellent presentation skills to promote multi-disciplinary and interagency liaison and collaborative practice to broad range of audiences including other professional, colleagues and service users.
