An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Associate Director of Nursing: Cancer to form part of the Senior Leadership team within corporate Cancer Services.

The post holder will work closely with the Director of Performance and Operational Improvement, Associate Director of Cancer Improvement and the Deputy Divisional Medical Director. The senior team will work together to provide strategic direction to deliver high quality and safe clinical services within required national and local standards.

The post holder will be responsible for the effective and efficient delivery of the day-to-day nursing and AHP functions across Cancer Services ensuring sustainable delivery of high-quality patient care, safety processes, operational standards and quality/ service improvement programmes. In addition, the post holder will have a professional accountability to the Director of Nursing for Corporate Services.

They will be required to demonstrate the effective management of teams and have experience of using appraisal and accountability frameworks to support this. They will support the development of an open and engaging culture for patients and staff that encourages excellence in clinical practice, facilitates team working and multi professional care delivery that adheres to Trust values and behaviours.

Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust was created on 1 October 2019 following the merger of two adult acute Trusts, Aintree University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and the Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust.

The merger provides an opportunity to reconfigure services in a way that provides the best healthcare services to the city and improves the quality of care and health outcomes that patients experience.

The Trust runs Aintree University Hospital, Broadgreen Hospital, Liverpool University Dental Hospital and the Royal Liverpool University Hospital.

An experienced, motivated and independently minded clinical manager who is able to act on their own initiative, adopting
values led ‘can do’ leadership style within a climate of constant change and uncertainty to develop and together with the Divisional team manage the strategic direction, performance, quality, care and compassion of the nursing/AHP service within Corporate Cancer Services.

Reporting to the Director of Nursing for Corporate Services, the post holder is expected to function at a very senior level within the Corporate Team, proactively leading and providing solutions to resolve complex issues, in accordance with professional standards, agreed Trust objectives, targets, quality standards and resource constraints. The post holder will have
managerial experience in leading professional teams, and will possess leadership skills to deal competently with complex issues in ensuring that professional standards and policy are upheld, implemented and performance managed.

Working closely with other members of the Cancer Team, the post holder will lead the implementation of patient centred clinical operational strategy and plans for the nursing/AHP professions, championing nursing/AHP quality standards, under the direction of the Director of Nursing for Corporate Services, ensuring that systems and processes are in place
to comply with relevant legislation and governance requirements, linking with professional bodies, and others such as commissioners a bout service developments, contracts and clinical care pathways whilst utilising the expertise and skills of the wider team.

As a member of the Cancer Team, the post holder significantly contributes to strategic direction and policy setting for the Trust, forming an essential communications link between the Division, Care Groups, the nursing/AHP professions, and other external organisations, demonstrating a coaching style of leadership in ensuring that clinical, staff and stakeholder engagement is reflected in the decision-making process.
