SWANSEA BAY UNIVERSITY HEALTH BOARD

The Midwifery Service at Swansea Bay has ambitious plans for its future. Under the direction of its Associate Director of Midwifery, the service is embarking on a transformation programme centred upon the development and opportunities for its maternity workforce, promoting service improvements through prevention, safety, learning and quality, improving women’s choice and the personalisation of care.

We are looking for an Associate Director of Midwifery who can harness their talent and expertise to transform these ambitions into a sustainable, inspiring and achievable reality.

This post will also act as the Deputy to the Group Nurse Director which offers a unique opportunity for aspiring Chief Nursing / Midwifery Officers or Executive Directors to expand their knowledge, skills and experience across a diverse portfolio.

The Associate Director of Midwifery will be a dynamic, experienced clinical leader, with the energy and drive to support our forward thinking and talented Midwifery management team in the evolution of the service and to shape our long term strategic plans.

The Swansea Bay University Health Board Midwifery service is comprised of over 160 staff which supports women, pregnant people and new born babies across West Wales through Community Midwifery teams, dedicated Birth and Obstetric Units and Community based Clinics.

This is a hugely exciting time to be joining the Midwifery team; with a cohesive, quality focussed Senior Team, ambitious plans and a dedicated operational team hungry to make a difference; the role of Associate Director of Midwifery is at the heart of making these ambitions a reality for the service.

As a University Health Board, we work in close partnership with Swansea University, Cardiff University and the University of South Wales, enabling an excellent platform for continuous professional development, research and innovation.

Located in the heart of the amazing coastline of Swansea Bay, the University Health Board is the main provider of elective and acute hospital services for the population of West Wales.

The University Health Board’s catchment stretches from the fringes of the lush dramatic landscape of the Neath Valley and the stunningly beautiful Gower coast to the bustling University City of Swansea and surrounding areas. Whilst our hospitals and clinics provide the care and treatments for the population, our locations provide the respite and recharge spaces that support positive long term health and wellbeing.

As one of the biggest healthcare groups in the UK we can offer a wealth of professional training and development opportunities in an innovative, forward-thinking organisation.

Our values - Caring For Each Other, Working Together and Always Improving, show that our commitment to equality is at the heart of everything we do.

If you want excellent career and training opportunities while living on the doorstep of some of Europe's most spectacular scenery, with all the benefits of a thriving and cosmopolitan city - look no further.

The team at Swansea Bay understand that the foundations for positive health and well-being start with positive experiences in pregnancy, birth and the early days of childhood. With this in mind, the service is dedicated to delivering person-centred, safe and high quality care for mothers, pregnant people and babies throughout pregnancy, birth and immediately following birth.

Maternity services in Swansea Bay are organised across Singleton and Neath Port Talbot hospitals, with dedicated Birth centres in both locations, a Labour ward at Singleton hospital and support from highly skilled Community teams supporting prenatal, intrapartum and antenatal care.

The Health Board currently finds itself in an exciting position, with the ambition to transform Maternity Services for the region, and is looking to appoint an Associate Director of Midwifery who can develop and oversee the delivery of a range of measures building upon safety, choice and support for population we serve.

As the most senior Midwife in the Health Board, the Associate Director of Midwifery will provide professional, strategic and clinical leadership to colleagues across the Health Board, demonstrating high levels of compassion, trust and support, to promote a democratic and collaborative leadership style which role models the values of the Health Board and creates an inspiring platform for engagement and innovation.

The Welsh Government “Maternity Care in Wales - a Five Year Vision for the future” provides a clear route map of the agreed priorities for Unit and Community services to achieve, including the provision of,
- Family centred care
- Safe and effective care
- Continuity of carer
- Skilled multi-professional teams
- Sustainable quality services

In order to build multi-professional teams, our staff have the choice to rotate across Unit and Community teams and play a pivotal role in shaping the Midwives of the f
