**Location of post**:Service Response Centre, The Quays, Baglan Energy Park (with planned relocation to the Transfer Station at Crymlyn Burrows within 12 months)

**Main purpose of the post**

To implement a range of communication and engagement activities for the Waste Services Section to assist the Council in meeting its statutory recycling targets. This will include:

- Carrying out targeted promotional work that raises awareness and encourages increased participation in the recycling service;
- The delivery of a range of face-to-face educational activities;
- The management of a range of communication channels

**Main duties and responsibilities**
- To deliver targeted campaigns that encourage and increase participation in the recycling schemes by promoting recycling and waste minimisation
- Conduct targeted door-knocking with the Council’s Recycling Awareness and Compliance Officers to engage the public to discover potential barriers to participating in the recycling scheme and solve these issues by ensuring people have the right equipment and have full information on the service
- Conduct a range of face to face educational and promotional activities including roadshows at events, school visits and talks to community groups
- Plan and deliver an annual programme of recycling and waste minimisation education to a range of different audiences, tied in with national campaigns where applicable
- Develop and implement new and innovative communications with residents including display material, social media, website, advertising and a suite of informative and educational videos.
- Provide advice and guidance in the correct use of the recycling scheme, to decrease the amount of contaminated waste
- Provide support and guidance to collection crews on what can and can’t be recycled, the sticker system and issues with collecting recycling.
- Manage the allocated budget for recycling promotion
- Be responsible for ordering and maintaining stocks of service literature and materials e.g. leaflets, flyers, stickers
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of communication and education initiatives, to inform future service improvements, campaigns and communication packages
- Identify and secure, in conjunction with the Waste Officer any new funding available for promotion of recycling and waste minimisation activities
- Maintain awareness of national recycling initiatives and assess for viability in Neath Port Talbot
- Work outside of core office hours, in order to represent the service at roadshows, talks and events
- Contribute to the performance of the team through the business planning, performance review and team meeting processes.
- To liaise with other directorates and sections as appropriate and to attend any ad-hoc working groups, council committees as directed by the Waste Officer and/or the Principal Officer - Waste Projects & Community Engagement
- Provide regular reports to the Waste Officer on performance and targets and objectives
- To comply with applicable legislation i.e. Health and Safety at Work Act and Equalities Act etc.
- To undertake duties commensurate with the grade of the post
