Permit to Work Controller - Contract to start March 2023 - 12 months Term

To provide a key role in the co-ordination and issue of safe systems of work (also referred to as permits to work) within a facility or suite of facilities, in line with the legal requirements outlined in HSG 250 (Guidance on Permit To Work systems) to ensure work is co-ordinated in a safe manner and to avoid conflict of workfaces.

You will promote and ensure Nuclear Safety, Conventional, Radiological, environmental and security standards are upheld and demonstrate positive compliance with site standards, processes and procedures and incorporates delivery or a key role.

**Experience**:

- Formally appointed role as Safe System of work Controller
- Participates in stakeholder meetings & agrees standards of work packs.
- Reviews risk assessments
- Acts on behalf of Construction or Commissioning Manager for oversight & co-ordination of work within the facility
- Acts on behalf of Construction or Commissioning Manager for oversight of plant configuration changes for the duration that a permit to work is in force.
- Independent verification of plant isolations
- Carries out plant walkdowns to ensure risk assessments are being adhered to
- Authorises work packs to progress
- Releases safe systems of work in line with integrated plan (plan of the day/plan of the night).
- Participates in local investigations & implementation of corrective actions
- Support safe implementation of plant modification in order to maintain the safe working environment
- Supports delivery of pre job brief and post job reviews
- Supports training of others in Safe system of Work standards
- Maintains competency training for appointed key roles
- Participates in PLOD/PLON.
- Undertake auditing activities, e.g. safety walkdown
- On shift liaison with Construction, maintenance and contractor teams to ensure safe systems of work are thorough and acceptable before release of the work pack

**Knowledge and Experience**:

- Experience in operations, maintenance, construction or commissioning.
- Understanding of radiological and/or conventional safety regulations.
- Robust at dealing with conflict & problem solving
- Excellent communication skills
- Understanding of plant isolation processes.
- Experience of preparing/reviewing of Risk Assessments.
- Ability to complete IOSH training (or equivalent)
- Evidence of good communication skills and the ability to influence at all levels of the organization.
- Demonstrable knowledge of a work planning cycle from the initial concept and prioritization of the work through the planning/preparation stages to the execution and close out of work.
- Proven ability of working with stakeholders.

**Desirable Skills**:

- Detailed understanding of HSG250. Must hold or be able to obtain BPSS Security Clearance.
