As Senior Adviser to Chief Operating Officer (COO), you will gain a birds-eye view of the workings of our Senior Leadership team and an insight into the challenges and decisions our Chief Officers face daily to deliver Natural England’s strategy and business.

This is a fascinating and high-profile role which offers excellent opportunities for extensive networking, as well as scope to be involved in a variety of specific projects. It provides unique oversight across Natural England’s many and varied areas of responsibility.

The role is varied and fast-moving. It will require you to think on your feet, show sound judgement, be organised with an excellent eye for detail, be responsive to changing priorities, proactive and self
- motivated.

You will need to make a positive impact and be highly recognised for your leadership, skills, knowledge and expertise in this role.

You need to be a good team player, work closely with Natural England Senior Leadership and provide cover where necessary to ensure a high-functioning, resilient Private Office team.

Due to the nature of the role, you will need to adhere to strict confidentiality and security protocols due to sensitive information you will be handling.

Job description
- Provide direction and day to day support to COO to help ensure organisational priorities are met.
- Provide support to the Operations Leadership Team to help ensure work across the team is delivered efficiently and effectively
- Ensure a Communications Strategy for COO is put into place through direction and support, to ensure engagement plans and interactions with the media are met.
- Focus on staff engagement and communications for the COO. Leading on a programme of activity to ensure the COO is visible and approachable to all staff across the country. Organise visits (face-to-face or virtual) for the COO to spend time with Area and National teams, enabling teams to showcase their work to the COO whilst also identifying the issues that they face.
- Assist the Communications teams in publishing timely, relevant articles for the Natural England intranet, Defra leaders blog and Gov.uk. Each article will be tailored to the specific audience and key messages to ensure maximum impact and engagement.
- Help ensure Natural England COO discharge his duties whilst operating within the Natural England Governance Framework, safeguarding high levels of risk management, governance and control
- Preparing documentation. Co-ordinate, chase, collate and quality assure briefings and meeting papers within required deadline.
- Provide COO with direct support at internal / external meetings, events and visits when required.
- Comply with Records management/filing procedures.
- Take the initiative to develop and sustain effective relationships with Senior Leaders and Private Office colleagues. Build collaborative networks across the full breadth of the organisation.
- Work with and support Private Office team colleagues in order to build resilience into the support we collectively provide to Natural England Senior Leadership, Legal, Governance & External Affairs team colleagues and the wider organisation to ensure a consistent and high quality service at all times and enable personal development and overall wellbeing within the team
