This is a substantive consultant post to support the existing clinical and academic programme in transplantation, end stage renal failure provision and community-based kidney care services across the sector.

This 10PA post will be expected to support outpatient activities on the Hampstead site and at our kidney care centre in Tottenham Hale. The post will also provide on call renal inpatient services on the Royal Free Hampstead site.

The outpatient activities will include support for chronic renal transplantation and haemodialysis at Tottenham Hale. The post holder will also deliver the coordination for renal biopsy services at the Royal Free in addition to a share of a renal biopsy list.

The Royal Free is an established centre of excellence for nephrology and transplantation services and the development of these specialties is consistent with the strategic plans of both the Trust and the UCL Medical School. An expansion in the kidney care programme features as an important element in the Royal Free’s integrated business plan (IBP) and long-term financial model (LTFM) and in its development as one of the leading national transplant sites
- Supervision and management of cohorts of long-term transplant patients and haemodialysis patients at Tottenham Hale Kidney Care centre incl. weekly clinics, MDTs and supervision of a nursing clinic for the former cohort
- Supervision and management of a specialist clinic as per the needs of the service
- Once weekly biopsy list including both native and transplanted kidneys
- Weekly biopsy planning MDT
- Commitment to the 1:9 consultant of the week nephrology and renal transplant on call rota at RFH, incl. AM handover, daily ward round of around 30 inpatients, discharge planning and review of all new admissions under nephrology. The activity includes weekend working and out of hours advice during the week on call. All routine clinic activity is cancelled during on-call duties
- Attendance at weekly X-ray meeting, renal pathology meeting and academic afternoon at RFH
- Support of IPC and antimicrobial stewardship activities
- Participation in the supervision and training of specialty trainees and clinical scientists, teaching of other junior trainees, medical students and hospital staff as appropriate
- Participation in the undergraduate teaching programme
- Participation in clinical audit and quality improvement
- Participation in service development and policy review
- Participation in CPD and quality assurance activity including annual appraisal and revalidation
