**Job summary**:
**Background: The UK Space Agency**:
The UK Space Agency (UKSA) is an executive agency of the Department for Science, Innovation & Technology (DSIT) and provides technical advice on the government’s space strategy, supporting the UK space sector to deliver the government’s vision.

Space is a part of everyday life. Satellites underpin our national economy, from agriculture and banking to aviation and shipping, and support our national security. Space science provides critical data to understand and address global challenges such as climate change, while missions to explore our solar system unite nations and advance humanity’s horizons.

We support a thriving space sector in the UK, which generates an annual income of £16.5 billion and employs 47,000 people across the country.

Through our portfolio of programmes and projects, we encourage the development of national space capabilities and are an early-stage investor in space research and development. We also promote the UK space sector’s interests and achievements; make connections to join up industry and academia; and represent the UK in international space programmes.

We have a powerful global voice, partnering with institutions across the world, including the European Space Agency.

**Our Inclusive Environment**

We have an inclusive culture to make UK Space Agency a brilliant place to work where our people feel valued, have a voice and can be their authentic selves. We value difference and diversity, not only because we believe it is the right thing to do, but because it will help us be more innovative and make better decisions.

We offer first-class flexible working benefits, excellent employee well-being support and a great pension. We are fortunate to have a range of excellent staff networks and are proud to be a Disability Confident Leader employer. We will support talented people from all backgrounds to build a career and thrive.

**Job description**:
**Role 1: Economic Advisor - Evidence Team**

**The Evidence Team**

The Evidence Team is a multi-disciplinary, dynamic team of 12 analysts working at the heart of UK Space Agency. We provide high-quality, robust research and analysis that is vital to informing policy and programme design across the Agency. We are seeking to recruit a Grade 7 economist to lead key analytical workstreams across appraisal, monitoring and evaluation and cross-cutting research.

This is a high-profile and exciting role in which the postholder will provide analytical leadership across UK Space Agency’s portfolio of high-profile programmes, focusing on the following priority areas:

- Earth Observation (EO) - We will grow the UK’s Earth observation capabilities, to provide the data and skills we need to drive prosperity and scientific discovery, and fight climate change.
- Low-Earth Orbit (LEO) - We will maximise the potential of the UK’s capabilities in LEO and become a global leader in development and use of LEO technology.

The postholder will also become part of the Evidence Team’s leadership team, helping to set the team’s objectives, direction and workplan and there will be opportunities to contribute towards corporate activities across the Directorate and Agency.

Through working and engaging with others, the postholder will role-model the Agency’s values as a United, Knowledgeable, Sharing and Ambitious organisation with an inclusive culture.

**Role 2: Economic Advisor - Launch Directorate**

**The Launch Programme**

The UK Launch Programme is a high priority within the UK Space Agency and across government. Working closely with colleagues from the Launch Programme and wider UK Space Agency, Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT), the Department for Transport (DfT), Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), HM Treasury (HMT), and others, it aims to create conditions enabling the UK to be the first country in Europe to achieve commercial small satellite launch, generating growth for the UK’s economy and establishing the conditions for ongoing market growth and commercial sustainability by 2030.

We are seeking a highly motivated individual to join this exciting programme and lead on the delivery of analysis, economic appraisal and the monitoring of benefits.

The programme aims to unlock significant new, including a share of the estimated £15 billion small satellite launch opportunity by the end of the next decade, new local economic activity
