We are currently recruiting for Paper Print Operatives Grade 1 to join our Paper Print team.
Working hours are 12 hour shifts working rotating days, nights and weekends with a 33% shift allowance.
Main Responsibilities
Reel changing on the Comexi printing press.
Preparing virgin reels for printing and recording supplier information to log sheets.
Operating Synpro printing press.
Mounting Synpro printing plates. Safe handling of printing sleeves and print cylinders and the storage there of.
Wash-up/change-over on both machines. Safe handling of anilox rollers and the storage there of.
Dispensing and mixing inks to correct Pantone reference numbers or colour samples as required.
Troubleshooting flexographic printing faults.
Safe use of solvents and ancillary equipment.
Safe use of other associated print department equipment.
Additional Responsibilities
Good understanding of department targets.
Deputise for Grade B printer in all aspects of job function.
Operating ‘V’ truck.
Use of PCF/BPCS system.
Pre-prep (plates)
Recording of downtime using the BPCS system
Ordering of Inks and Solvents - weekly and monthly stock checks
Liase with planning to get the best efficiency out of the printing presses
Maintain the print plate mounting database
Assist on the Comexi in the event of labour shortages
Deputise for the technical supervisor in his absence

Recording of downtime using the BPCS system
Ordering of Inks and Solvents - weekly and monthly stock checks
Using and maintaining the X Rite Spectrophotometer and ink dispensing equipment and the databases associated to them in order to assist in achieving control of colour on both new and current designs, especially targeted with keeping waste to a minimum
Providing samples (draw-downs) of Pantone or specific colours for customer approval quickly and in a professional manner using the Harper Colour Proofing machine.
Keep a QC draw-down of colours taken from stock and approved as ready for use on press.
Work with our ink supplier to rationalise the number of Pantone colours currently used.
Assisting on customer sign-offs when required.
QC check the data that is logged on the job file to make sure the correct ink mix is recorded for future press runs.
To support the print department by being involved in Continuous Improvement Projects, including developing new technologies and processes that assist in reducing cost and improving quality
Assist on the Comexi in the event of labour shortages
- Educated to GCSE level
- Mechanical aptitude.
- Experience of high-speed manufacturing.
- Computer literate.
- Knowledge of BPCS system.
- Good attendance record.
- Good colour vision.
- Keen to learn and willingness to be flexible.
