Like most places, the average age of our population is rising as more people are living longer, so we are working closely with residents to help them maintain their independence and further improve the cost effectiveness of our service to meet the ongoing rise in demand.

Kingston is home to people from diverse and interesting cultures and backgrounds, which helps to create the rich sense of community shared across the borough. In particular, Kingston has a large Sri Lankan Tamil community and is home to more people from Korea than any other part of the UK.

**About the Role** 1

To be responsible for the day to day operational running, performance and promotion of the Library.
- To deliver vibrant, exciting library services that have books, reading and learning at the heart of them, delivering excellent customer care when dealing with customer enquiries in all formats
- To be responsible for the efficient and effective day to day operation of the library service from a specified building. Specifically with responsibility for the safety and security of staff, the public, the building, stock, equipment ,monies and responding to operational requirements and re-prioritising as necessary.
- To have line management responsibility for all staff in the branch, including recruitment, staff development and training, appraisals and managing disciplinary issues
- To be responsible for Health & Safety and the building, working with the Total Facilities and Property Management Service Provider to ensure that all statutory requirements are met to promote a safe environment for staff, volunteers and the public and to collaborate with the Total Facilities Management colleagues to manage maintenance and repairs to the building
- To ensure that income collection, cash handling and banking procedures are carried out efficiently and effectively and that money is adequately recorded and accounted for according to RBK and library policy and procedures and comply with audit and finance requirements
- With support from the Strategic Team and Development Officers, to lead on library events and activities including ICT learning and digital inclusion sessions, book groups, Baby Rhymetimes, class visits and to participate in community engagement events and activities such as Neighbourhood Festivals, World Book Night, Summer Reading Challenge, which may involve some evening work and working outside the library building

Week One: Monday 9am-6pm / Tuesday 9am-6pm / Wednesday Off / Thursday 9am-6pM/Friday 9am-6pm/Saturday 9am-5pm

Week Two : Monday 9am-8pm / Tuesday 9am-5pm / Wednesday Off / Thursday 9am-6pM/Friday 9am-6pm/Saturday Off
