Your role will be working across Mid-Somerset. Covering sites on the Mendip Hills and our Poldens, Coast and Levels properties. The position will be based out of the Barton Office at the western end of the Mendip ridge and part of the wider Somerset Coast & Countryside team.

As the Apprentice Ranger you will work alongside a our existing team of staff and volunteers, helping to deliver our countryside work plans and ambitious objectives across our Mid-Somerset sites. Supported by the Area Rangers, and the wider team, you will work and gain experience with a wide variety of skills and tasks working in outdoor conservation.

You will play a key role assisting with day to day engagement and conservation work as well as involvement in project delivery. As such you will be a major contributor to realising our ambitions to improve NT land for nature and people in Somerset.

You will play the key role in maintaining excellent standards of presentation and property maintenance, successfully achieving high conservation standards. You will build and maintain strong professional relationships with colleagues, contractors, tenants and neighbouring land managers.

What you'll be doing:You'll be working with your Trust Line Manager/ Mentor on tasks specific to your apprenticeship and as part of the wider team and will be working outdoors in all weathers. You’ll attend, and prepare for, monthly review meetings with your Provider Mentor and be accountable for your own progression in relation to the Apprenticeship Standard. You'll be required to complete and upload relevant evidence to the appropriate e-portfolio system to document your progress as well as maintain timesheets for Off-the Job training. You'll be required to complete mandatory e-learning, courses and training provided as well as preparing for exams if applicable.

You'll need to attend 2 block weeks of training at the college in Somerset, with all travel, food and accommodation costs covered.

Who we're looking forWe’re looking for a self-motivated doer who is able to encourage those around them; someone with a curiosity about countryside management and the confidence to connect with visitors, partners and the local community about our sites, our work and our ambitions for land, the outdoors and nature.

You’ll need a full UK driving licence, good written and verbal communication skills and be proficient in basic computer skills - Outlook, Word and Excel
