The Mare and Foal Sanctuary is the largest equine charity in the South West peninsula, dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming of horses and ponies in need.

Based in Devon, we have 4 specialist sites including a specialist veterinary and welfare assessment centre. We also have an active programme of educational events for horse owners and a multidisciplinary equine assisted learning team.

We are looking for an Estate Ranger to provide a high level of professional land maintenance services for the safety and wellbeing of the Sanctuary's staff, horses and ponies.

**Key Responsibilities:

Working across all Sanctuary sites:

- Carry out all routine countryside management tasks such as tractor driving and safe use of its attachments for moving and relocate hay bales, collecting and emptying muck trailers for grooms etc.
- Carry out local weed spraying with the use of a backpack sprayer
- Chainsaw working for fallen trees and ground clearance works including basic maintenance tasks
- Strimmer/Hedge Cutting/Mowers/Leaf blowing collection works
- Fencing repairs and new installations
- Repairing and replacing gates and posts
- Hedgerow management
- Digger/dumper plant driving
- Wildlife enhancement projects
- Receive instruction and breakage notifications and assess whether further authority is required from the line manager
- Review all areas during the course of operations and identify and resolve minor issues before they develop
- Identify and make safe any unsafe situations
- Source required materials when required using best value principles
- Source most competitive quotations for any contracted works as requested
- Perform regular safety checklists and maintain Health & Safety documentation
- Self-assess risks involved in the course of the work and seek further clarification if unsure
- Manage projects when required
- Comply with any other reasonable instructions from line manager or Senior Management
- Previous experience in a similar role
- Countryside Management Diploma or demonstrable experience
- PA1 & PA6 spraying qualification
- CS30 chainsaw qualification
- Good level of fitness for a physical role
- Ability to use, repair and maintain machines and tools
- Experience of managing workload, sourcing materials and planning works
- Health & Safety trained or willingness to receive further training
- Full UK driving licence

**Salary**:

- £22,678 to £25,333

**Job Types**: Full-time, Permanent
