**Job summary**:
An exciting opportunity to join a small team who support Dstl and other Government agencies to undertake the thermal destruction of waste.

Based at Porton Down, the Dstl Specialist Facilities Group is responsible for disposing of hazardous waste produced by Dstl, other government agencies and external companies. We operate the incinerator, a national asset and our main disposal facility for hazardous, clinical, explosive, radiological and sensitive wastes.

The incinerator operates day and night so we are looking for an Incinerator Operator to join a small shift team to ensure the waste facility is run in an efficient, safe and sustainable manner.

**Job description**:
In this role you will:

- You will, handle, move and process clinical / chemical and hazardous waste.
- Undertake routine Incinerator site (non-intrusive) maintenance tasks.
- Undertake mandatory and role specific training including:

- Working at Height.
- Confined Space.
- First Aid at Work.
- Forklift trucks and lifting equipment.
- Work to relevant safety and site procedures.
- Work to relevant quality standards
- Work 12hr shifts including nights and weekends.
- Complete waste documentation.
- Use facility vehicles to escort visitors, attend training and undertake on/off site deliveries.

You will be expected to have an annual medical (carried out on site), and have continuous health monitoring (carried out while working at the incinerator).

**Person specification**:
We are looking for someone who has:

- Evidence of good standard of general education e.g. GCSEs or equivalent including English and Mathematics at Grade C or above.
- Driving licence B and own transport.
- Good communication skills.
- Ability to use MS Office Applications (Outlook, Excel, Word).
