To undertake the LA statutory responsibility in respect of non-school attendance.

To review, advise and evaluate attendance procedures in schools. To work with individual pupils and families and groups of pupils and families to address poor attendance. To administer the Directorate’s non-school attendance procedures. To report on infringements of the acts relating to Employment of Children. To identify and follow up on Children Missing Education. To advise and intercede as necessary in respect of Elective Home Education. To advise and intercede where necessary to safeguard pupils. To advise and intercede in issues of welfare that are impacting on, or manifesting in school.

EWOs work closely with school staff, education support staff, psychologists, social workers, police and health personnel, and many other agencies in both the statutory and voluntary fields. The work is demanding, at times stressful, but most of all very rewarding.
