General Practice Specialty Trainee Coordinator
The General Practice Specialty Trainee (GPST) Coordinator will play a key role as part of the Postgraduate Education team. He/she will coordinate, organise and provide the administration of the General Practice Specialty Trainee programme.
The GPST Coordinator will also provide support to the Training Programme Director and Deputy/Post Graduate Medical Education Managers in order that the local provision of education and training for all GP doctors in training is to the standards required by the GMC, NHSE and Royal Colleges.
The post involves daily communication with trainees, General Practices, and Consultants regarding educational issues. The GPST Coordinator additionally provides pastoral support to GP doctors in training. The post also involves liaising with the lead employer and the Lancashire Care Trust to facilitate psychiatric placements.
**General**:
Provide administrative support to the Medical Education team as and when required.
Organise meetings as and when required including the preparation of agendas, distribution of relevant paperwork and minute taking and setting up of Teams invites.
Fulfil other objectives as agreed with the Deputy/Post Graduate Medical Education Managers in conjunction with other members of the team as appropriate to ensure work streams are covered during busy times within the Postgraduate team.
To participate in daily cover arrangements and general holiday/sickness relief arrangements for administrative and secretarial services within the Department.
Work with the Centre team and wider Education team to ensure the smooth running of the Education Centre, including room layout and reception duties as required.
Provide cover for absent colleagues as required.
Attend monthly team meetings and assist in the development of new administrative and service systems.
Undertake personal development via personal development reviews.
Ensure mandatory training is up to date.
This role will be based at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals, in the Education Centre alongside the Postgraduate team.
GPST Programme
To work in partnership with NHSE for the recruitment and placement of trainee doctors for GPST1, GPST2 and Innovative Training posts, ensuring that all timescales are met.
To assist the Training Programme Director with reviewing information received on trainee experience and placing trainees in the appropriate tracks following acceptance of a post by the trainee.
Share any alterations made to the GPST master spreadsheet with GP Training NW colleagues timey.
To assist the Training Programme Director with the implementation, monitoring, evaluation and administration of the GPST assessment and competency process to the standards set by the GMC and NHSE.
To allocate Educational Supervisors to each trainee, ensuring that the Educational Supervisor is appropriately trained.
To provide advice with regard to inter-Deanery transfers and to accommodate this into the track system.
To communicate with hospital specialties to inform them of trainee placement allocations timely.
To provide administrative support to the Deputy/Postgraduate Medical Education Managers in ensuring that all trainees receive (and evidence that they have received) a department induction.
To arrange for trainees to attend other training courses relevant to their training as and when required including Trust-specific IT provider courses.
To prepare an annual academic programme of teaching for GPST1, GPST2 and GPST3 trainees, ensuring the provision of adequate facilitators, rooms, and catering (where appropriate) and the production of promotional and teaching materials. Negotiating with facilitators and liaising with other Departments, services and outside Agencies in order to include mandatory and specialty topics as and when required.
To ensure timely correspondence with guest speakers at GPST teaching and ensure that slides and presentations are available in advance. To organise attendance registers and ensure that attendance information is recorded on the relevant database. Ensure evaluations are recorded, analysed and passed on to the tutors.
To submit any financial costs to the Department of Health for external trainers and internal subsidiary costs.
To support the local Quality Assurance programme by promoting trainee surveys and focus groups and help gather feedback where possible.
To inform the Quality Manager of issues/feedback from quality assurance data outside of the local quality assurance programme, the GMC trainee survey, and the HENW quality monitoring visit.
To be proactive in implementing new local, national and regional initiatives in the Trust to ensure NHSE and GMC compliance.
To assist and support the Deputy/Postgraduate Medical Education Manager with the preparation of the Junior Doctors Induction Programme. To work closely with Digital training teams to ensure system access is prepared.
