**Job description**:
Group Finance plays a pivotal role in the financial management for the Department for Transport and this is an exciting opportunity to build your knowledge whilst helping us deliver real value for money to the taxpayer.

As a Finance Business Partner, you will act as the link between Finance and the Business, using your expertise to support, advise and challenge stakeholders on issues such as affordability, risk and compliance with government standards. You will build robust relationships with senior stakeholders, develop an understanding of policy areas and ensure that Finance is kept at the heart of decision making across the department.

You will work in a welcoming, cooperative team on some of the highest-spending projects across government and will deal with significant budgets and projects that impact the public. We support our team’s development and encourage staff to get involved with a variety of work, ensuring everyone has exposure to a range of challenging opportunities.

There may be a requirement to manage a member of staff. If you have not worked as a line manager previously, we will support you to develop the required skills.

**Responsibilities in**clude, but are not limited to**:

- Providing sound financial advice and management to the Directorates and Arm’s Length Bodies (ALBs).
- Presenting financial information to Senior Management Teams on a regular basis. Communicating complex financial issues to enable individuals with little financial knowledge to understand key messages and providing insight and advice to help inform decision making.
- Developing a full understanding of policies and cost drivers of the directorates’ spend, ensuring they are managed and monitored effectively to meet business plans and objectives.
- Challenging and supporting Directors and Budget Managers in managing spend on a portfolio basis. Recognising potential risk and opportunities and identifying solutions to manage them.
- Leading on financial planning and forecasting exercises, supporting and providing constructive challenge to business areas when identifying their funding requirements in-year and going forward. This will include working on significant fiscal events such as Spending Reviews.

**About You**

You'll be highly motivated and an effective organiser, which will allow you to work fluidly in fast paced environment, remaining flexible at all times.

You can confidently lead financial forecasting and planning.

Your natural communication skills, will mean that you are confident in coaching and supporting others, and presenting financial information to stakeholders including those with mínimal financial knowledge. Your ability to quickly build meaningful and trusting relationships with your colleagues and stakeholders regardless of their seniority allows you to understand their needs, and influence and challenge where necessary.

You will either be qualified under one of the main five Consultative Committees of Accounting Bodies [CCAB] i.e. ACCA; CIPFA; ICAEW; ICAI or ICAS, or CIMA, actively studying towards one of these qualifications.

**Additional Information**

A minimum **60%** of your working time should be spent at your principal workplace, although requirements to attend other locations for official business, or carry out detached duty in another DfT workplace, will also count towards this level of attendance.

Occasional travel to other DfT offices will be required.
