**Job Title** - Cook

**Reporting To** - Karen Reid Manager / Sally Eady Deputy Manager

**Job Purpose** - To organise and control the efficient and economic production of

quality food within the allocated budget, whilst maintaining high

standards of cleanliness and hygiene in line with the EHO regulations.

**Skills, Knowledge and Qualifications.**

**Required**:

- SVQ in professional cookery or City & Guilds equivalent qualification

(achieved or working towards)
- Basic Food / Hygiene Certificate
- Good Communication skills
- Team player
- Ability to work on own initiative
- Satisfactory police check (PVG)

**Desired**:

- Previous management / supervisory experience
- Experience of food preparation for Older People

**Main Responsibilities**:
Food preparation:

- Prepare, cook and serve hot and cold meals, as and when required.
- Provide for special dietary requirements where necessary and take into account the preferences of the Residents.

Communications:

- Assist in planning / menus in order to provide a balanced nutritious diet, making the best use of available fresh food.
- Participate in Staff and Resident meetings as required.

Budgetary / Financial Control:

- Maintain accurate records of food supplies, and freezer / fridge temperatures.
- Ensure stock rotation. Assist in the ordering of stocks and checking deliveries, and check and value stocks as required by Management.

Training & Development:

- Supervise and instruct Kitchen Staff Members in the use of all equipment and hygiene procedures, giving help and guidance where appropriate.
- Maintain and improve professional knowledge and competence.
- Attend Mandatory training days / courses, on or off site, as and when required.

Health and Safety:

- Ensure Statutory Health and safety in the kitchen and dining areas.
- Ensure all crockery and equipment is cleaned and stored appropriately, and that the overall cleaning of the kitchen area, (and where appropriate the dining areas) is carried out efficiently.
- Report immediately to the Management or Person in Charge, any illness of an infectious nature or accident incurred by a Resident, colleague, self or other.
- Understand, and ensure the implementation of, the health and safety Policy of the House and emergency and Fire Procedures.
- Report to the Manager any faulty appliances, damaged furniture, equipment or any potential hazard.
- Promote safe working practice in the Care Home.

General:

- Promote a positive personal / professional profile within the local community, ensuring the good reputation of the Care Home at all times.
- Ensure that all information of a confidential nature gained in the course of duty is not divulged to third parties.
- Notify the Manager, or the Person in Charge, as soon as possible of your inability to report for duty, and also on your return to work from all periods of absence.
- Ensure the security of the Care Home is maintained at all times.
- Adhere to all company Policies and Procedures within the defined timescales.
- Ensure all equipment is clean and well maintained.
- Carry out any other tasks that may be reasonable assigned to you.

Job Duties:

- Prepare all food items as directed in a sanitary and timely manner
- Follow recipes and presentation specifications
- Operate standard kitchen equipment safely and efficiently
- Maintain a clean working station whilst adhering to health & safety standards
- Assist with the cleaning and organisation of kitchen and equipment
- Restock items as needed throughout the shift
- Adhere to all food hygiene & safety standards

Additional Duties:

- Menu planning
- Food shopping
- Recording food temperatures
- Preparing reports

**Job Types**: Full-time, Permanent

**Salary**: From £12.00 per hour

Schedule:

- 8 hour shift

COVID-19 considerations:
All risk assessments and screening prior to shift commencing for all staff. Weekly testing to follow government guidelines. PPE to be worn at all times.
