The Youth and Community Worker-SPF will provide support, guidance, and mentoring to young people aged 11-25 who are identified as at risk of becoming, or are currently NEET (Not in Education, Employment, or Training). Dependent on the needs of the identified young people, the youth worker will be expected to work towards the outcomes for either the 11-16 or 16-25 teams within the project by means of group work or on an individual basis.

An exciting and rewarding opportunity has opened for two enthusiastic individuals to join the authority’s Youth Service team and help provide mentoring, support, information and guidance to young people currently, or at risk of becoming, NEET.

As a Youth and Community Worker you will provide support to young people to identify personal barriers to gaining employment, education and/or training and help plan and deliver training opportunities to help them gain the skills they need to participate fully in all available opportunities.

You will develop strong links with education/training providers and career/employment agencies in order to help meet the needs of the young person and overcome barriers for young people in accessing information regarding education, training and employment.

As this post is agile, you will have the ability to undertake the role within Youth Service settings and at home as well as other young people’s settings across the Borough.

Essential to the role is a relevant professional qualification in Youth Work and the ability to register as a ‘Youth Worker’ with the EWC (Wales). Previous experience of working with at risk young people, including the delivery of mentoring & support, is also essential.

Required skills include;
- excellent interpersonal / communication skills with the ability to relate to and enthuse young people,
- the ability to work independently and as part of a multi-agency team,
- the ability to assess the needs of young people and develop appropriate action plans and
- a high level of personal resilience, including the ability to manage conflict and deal with stressful situations.

This post requires a registration with the Education Workforce Council (EWC) under the category of Youth Worker and registration will need to be in place prior to commencement in the role.

Access to a vehicle for work purposes is a requirement.
