Job Title: Cell Biologist

Location: Port Sunlight Research Lab

We are currently recruiting a Bioscientist within our Beauty & Wellness/Personal Care Science & Technology team. Beauty & Wellness and Personal Care are strategic growth areas for Unilever with Brands spanning the Skin Cleansing and Care, Hair Care, Oral Care and Deodorants categories and a key strategy for growth is to continue delivering functionally superior products that consumer love.

The position will be based our Port Sunlight laboratory within a team of bio-scientists and will interface with the broader Human Biology team across our global R&D sites.

JOB PURPOSE

We are looking for a role holder with a strong cell biology/cell culture background, preferably combined with experience molecular biology methods and bioinformatics. Evidence of knowledge and expertise in developing
_in vitro/ex vivo_ strategies, cellular models, and assays to modify or manipulate the properties of biological systems would also be required.

The role will include working with existing external partners and helping the Team Leader to identify new strategic external partners and networks. The role is ideally suited to an enthusiastic individual who is self-motivated and has a passion for applied science that provides a winning edge for our products. We work in multi-disciplinary project teams where everybody contributes to achieving the same goal, so we are looking for excellent people skills including team working and communication skills. You should also be able to demonstrate that you can work on your own initiative, and that you continually develop your scientific skills. A proven track record of delivery within an academic or industrial environment is preferable, as well as evidence of good decision-making and delivering effectively to deadlines.

RESPONSIBILITIES
- To work at the bench using your experience in cell biology and biochemistry to deliver substrate-based insights for the development of new technologies
- To use experience gained to develop, optimise and troubleshoot methods
- To provide intellectual input, generate hypotheses and make recommendations to the Team Leader in order to progress the programme
- To contribute to internal bioscience capability build
- To develop and maintain strong links across the multi-disciplinary project teams, identifying and acting upon opportunities to improve understanding, approaches, and ways of working
- To report and present key insights, developments, and observations

ALL ABOUT YOU
- Minimum BSc. in Biochemistry or Cell Biology with a strong biochemical component, preferably accompanied by years of relevant practical experience either in academic or industrial environment. A PhD in the relevant area or equivalent experience would be an advantage
- Experience of analytical techniques such as HPLC, LC-MS, GC-MS would be highly advantageous
- Experience in assay development/execution is required
- Proven track record of delivery within academic or industrial environment is required
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Able to work both in a team and independently
- Evidence of ability to develop networks to enable delivery

Travel
- Yes, up to 5% of the time
