**Groups Project Officer**

**ReConnect Gloucestershire CIC Background**

ReConnect has been supporting people affected by long-term health conditions and their carers for over 8 years. We provide a peer befriending scheme and support groups to people living with stroke, aphasia and other long-term health conditions across Gloucestershire.

We collaborate closely with statutory and VCS organisations, clinicians and carers to cross-refer, signpost to other activities and services and provide a joined-up approach for people accessing a variety of services.

Our work aims to:

- Reduce isolation and loneliness through peer support.
- Enable people to lead more connected and fulfilled lives.
- Support people to make informed choices regarding their care and lifestyle.

This is an exciting time to join our small friendly team, as we are in the process of shaping our new strategy and programmes to benefit the people of Gloucestershire. Our current vacancy of Groups Project Officer is very much a part of that development.

We are looking for someone to continue supporting our existing groups and to expand our offer further.

**Groups Project Officer Key Responsibilities**
- Consults with stakeholders to determine where there is a need and a potential source of group members, informing location of and creating new groups
- Liaises with other third sector and statutory organisations to promote the service via talks, networking meetings, e mails and leaflet distribution.
- Initiates groups and then empowers members to develop self-sufficient and sustainable groups, ensuring that they run by the individual constitutions set by members but within the overarching Reconnect core values of inclusion, empowerment and sustainability.
- Is the point of contact for group members
- Helps members to organise trips, transport and helps members to develop relationships with speakers
- Encourages fund raising by group members to ensure sustainability beyond the life of the grant
- Initial “hand holding” for new group members who require this
- Processes referrals, talking to the referrer if necessary to establish need and any risk, especially when mental health diagnoses are part of the reason for referral.
- Contacts the referred and discusses the service and any requirements, arranging a time to carry out an initial visit if needed.
- Regularly attends CPD training
- Reports monthly figures, collates data and carries out evaluation, delivering these to the project manager.
- Attends support meetings with project manager when required.
- Ensures secure storage and sharing of people’s information including referral forms.
- Work with the ReConnect project manager and project officer to establish and facilitate a pathway of home befriending
- group
- become a befriender for people who would like to follow this pathway.
- Support participant progression through our theory of change empowering them to become volunteers themselves when they feel more confident and able to.
- Attend networking and community events across Gloucestershire to promote our service and build relationships with new partners and potential volunteers and group members.
- Assist the team with the organisation of social events and trips.
- Promote our services across social media platforms (Facebook & Twitter) and on our website (Wordpress).

**Person Specification**

**It is essential that you have**:

- A warm and inclusive attitude to people of all ages and backgrounds, taking a positive and empowering approach to inspire and motivate volunteers and participants to give their best to the project.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Willingness to learn new skills and participate in all training opportunities offered.
- An ability to be focused, take initiative, self-motivate and adapt quickly. We all pitch in with ad-hoc tasks to support the smooth running of our small organisation.
- Personal organisational skills including time management and managing information.
- A good knowledge of other statutory and third sector organisations across Gloucestershire who work with our target groups.
- Own transport to travel across Gloucestershire to visit volunteers and our peer support groups (mileage expenses covered at 50p per mile).

**It is desirable that you have**
- A keen interest in working in the Voluntary, Community, Social Enterprise Sector
- Knowledge of Gloucestershire communities and places
- Experience recruiting and managing volunteers
- Experience of working with people affected by disabilities or long-term health conditions

**Conditions of Employment**

**Salary: £25,000** pa 0.4 Full Time Equivalent (FTE) pro rata (2 days per week
- £10,000)

**Hours of Work**: Flexible to be agreed

**Place of Work**: Stonehouse Office and out and about around Gloucestershire.
