Personal Tutor

The purpose of the role is to act as a personal tutor for pastoral and academic matters, providing tutorial support for full time students, supervising their academic progress, setting ambitious targets and encouraging students to raise their aspirations to ensure students achieve their individual potential.
**KEY ROLES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES**:
**Pastoral and Academic Support**:
- To follow the direction of the Curriculum Resource and Quality Leader for the department regarding the content and delivery of group Tutorial programmes and to liaise and collaborate with Learner Services Staff and Learning Centres where needed
- To participate in the design and delivery of curriculum specific induction and tutorial programmes.
- To encourage the development of a positive group identity amongst students and a “sense of belonging” to the College and their course group.
- To assist students during induction to facilitate a smooth transition so that learners are well-informed and prepared for the demands of the new course.
- ** Group Tutorial Support**:
- To co-ordinate and deliver an active group and support tutorial programme bespoke to the curriculum area.
- To provide advice and guidance to students on strategies, study skills, etc. to improve their own learning and performance and independence.
- Provide Career advice for Students in collaboration with our Careers team.
**Support (1:1) Tutorial Support**:
- To collaborate with CRQ Leaders, Personal Learning Coach and curriculum staff to set target grades, monitor and track academic progress to assist learners in achieving their agreed grades.
- To monitor attendance and progress, identify those at risk and supporting intervention tactics working CRQ Leaders, curriculum staff, parents/guardians to get learners back on target
- To provide feedback to students to enable them to improve grades and performance and assist them in developing personal development skills.
- To use the College ILP systems to monitor and address attendance, track progress and take appropriate action to maintain the students’ progress and support students to access their own ILPs to monitor their own progress
- To liaise with Student Support Services and Personal Learning Coach Services to secure the appropriate support for students.
- To act as an advocate for vulnerable students groups, such as Looked After Children, Care leavers, young carers, etc.
- To maintain accurate student records to inform others of potential issues, difficulties and support requirements.
- Complete references for students
- To assist students in meeting the actions from any disciplinary processes and any subsequent disciplinary outcomes.
**Delivery and Support of Curriculum**:
- To work with CRQ Leaders and curriculum teams to ensure learners achieve targets and meet set deadlines
- To deliver learning based on collaboratively produced materials and resources. This includes preparing lesson plans and resources which contribute to an identified scheme of work, specific to the level or programme of study or identified learning outcomes.
- To make use of appropriate ILT, teaching & learning techniques and strategies in delivering learning in classroom and workshop settings.
- To support students in undertaking and completing ILT-based delivery and assessments.
- To assess portfolios of evidence or assessments and moderation activities for additional qualification aims.
- To assist in devising and delivering assessment plans/materials.
**Additional Duties**:
- To work as an integral part of a curriculum staff team, within College Directorates.
- To liaise with curriculum and support staff to compile and produce reports for parents and employers as required.
- To support curriculum staff with student interviews
- To liaise with curriculum delivery and support staff.
- To contribute to College self-assessment processes.
- To attend internal and external staff development events when required.
- To undertake such other duties as are reasonably allocated either permanently or from time to time.
- To complete First Aid qualification and act as a duty first aider as required.
**GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITIES**
- To commit to the safeguarding and promotion of the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults
- To participate in the College’s Performance Management Scheme and attend such training events as are necessary to enable him/her to carry out the duties of the job description.
- To continually improve teaching, learning and assessment through proactive CPD and sharing best practice.
- To actively participate in the College’s Quality System, including quality improvement strategies and initiatives.
- To undertake such other duties as may be assigned commensurate with the grade and purpose of the post.
- To take reasonable care for the health and safety of him/her and for others affected by his/her work.
