To Work in the Portering Department at Eastbourne Hospital on a alternating shift pattern.

Monday to Sunday 0800-1600, 1430-0000, 1600-0000 and 1000-1800 on a alternating shift pattern

Will also be trained to work in the waste department to cover shifts as and when required

**A Hospital Porter needs to demonstrate**:

- Sensitivity and understanding

- Thinking and reasoning skills

**A Hospital Porter will**:

- Have good communication skills and customer service skills
- Be able to work well with people from a wide range of backgrounds.
- Be fit and have high levels of stamina.
- Be able to work well under pressure.
- Act calmly and quickly in emergencies.
- Be able to follow instructions.
- Respect patient confidentiality.
- Deal sensitively with patients and visitors who are anxious, distressed or very unwell.
- Have a flexible attitude to work.

- A rr a n g e a c c e ss t o t h e m o r t ua r y f o r a p p r op r i a t e pe r s o n s a s d i r e c t ed.
- It may be necessary to a ss i st Ambulance crews and/or Contracted Funeral Director during admission.

3. D e li v e r i e s

To p r o v i d e a c o ll e c t i o n a n d de li v e r y s e r v i ce a s r e qu i r e d f o r i n t e r n a l s pe c i m e n s, t h e a t r e / x -r a y li s t s.

4. E qu i p m e n t, F u r n i t u r e a n d F i t t i ngs
- Patient related equipment to be clean and in good repair, defects to be reported to the Duty Team Leader.
- F u r n i t u r e a n d o t h e r e qu i p m e n t t o b e m o v e d a r o u n d t h e h o s p i t a l s w h e n a n d w he r e r e q u i r e d.

5. M ed i c a l G a s
- T h e d e li v e r y o f e m p t y / f u l l cy li nd e r s a s r e q u i r e d. This will include manifold rooms and associated piped gas systems.
- To a t t e n d t o o r r e p o r t an y d e f e c t s wi t h t h e m ed i c a l g a s s u p p l y a s r e qu i r e d.

6. E m e r g en cy P r o c e d u r e s

To a t t e n d t h e a pp r o p r i a t e w a r d o r d e pa r t m e n t i m m ed i a t e l y wi t h t h e a pp r op r i a t e e q u i p m e n t a n d a ss i s t a n c e u p o n h e a r i n g t h e a l a r m s f o r:

- C a r d i a c a rr e st / Lucas Machine
- M a j o r i n c i d e n t, Hazchem and CBRN incidents

- H e li c o p t e r l a n d i n g
- F ir e a l a rm
- Patient Collapse
