- Friday) | May include some evening and weekend work.

**Contract Type**: Permanent | 52 weeks per year | 6 month probationary period

**Annual Leave**:28 days plus bank holidays. Increasing each year to a max of 33 days after
5 years of service.

**Location**: Predominantly working in The Everton Park Nature Garden | Some travel to different sites across Merseyside | Head Office in Garston

Food For Thought is a not-for-profit healthy school meals catering company based in Liverpool.
The company is owned by its member schools and our board of directors comprises of local headteachers. We currently work with over 80 local primary, secondary and special schools.

We believe that time spent outdoors is fundamental to the physical, emotional and mental wellbeing of children, young people and adults.
Since 2016 we have engaged pupils from our member schools in outdoor learning experiences, focusing on food growing and conservation, and in the last academic year we successfully delivered the John Muir Award programme to 100 pupils from six local schools.

**Overview of Role**:
In August 2021 we negotiated an agreement with Liverpool City Council to develop the Nature
Garden in Everton. Since then, we have been collaborating with the Community Payback Team
(part of the Probation Service) to transform the site.

Alongside the development of the Nature Garden, our Outdoor Learning Instructor has been delivering a programme of educational activities to children and young people from schools and the local community. The main aim of this project is to provide children, young people and adults with experience of being outdoors, taking physical exercise and connecting with the natural environment, in order to enhance their physical, mental and emotional wellbeing.

We are seeking to appoint an Assistant Outdoor Learning Instructor, who will support the lead
Outdoor Learning Instructor, helping us bring to life our vision for the Nature Garden and deliver inspiring educational sessions for schools and community organisations.

The position is full time and permanent. You will be primarily based at Everton Park Nature
Garden, but may also require delivery of outdoor education sessions at various sites across the city of Liverpool, so flexibility is required.

**Key Responsibilities**:
The Assistant Outdoor Learning Instructors responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

- Contributing to the planning, co-ordination, implementation, and monitoring of the on
- site activities at Everton Park Nature Garden.
- Co-operating with and supporting, a small team of local volunteers in their daily activities.
- Contributing to the re-design, and ongoing development of Everton Park Nature Garden.
- Assisting with the maintenance and improvement of the Everton Park Nature Garden site.
- Using and maintaining relevant tools and equipment.
- Supporting the delivery of outdoor learning sessions to children and young people from

Food For Thought member schools and local community organisations.
- Assisting the Food For Thought lead Outdoor Learning Instructor in planning, developing and implementing communication strategies, campaigns and materials for its outdoor learning programme.
- Supporting the production of regular content about the Nature Garden for Food For

Thought’s social media, webpage and other forms of communication.
- Assisting with the design and delivery of a programme of outdoor learning activities for children, young people, volunteers and trainees.
- Assisting and supporting the Outdoor Learning Instructor with ongoing site maintenance and hygiene.
- Contributing to the values ethos of Food For Thought, through the nurturing of existing partnerships and in the building of new ones.
