Edit, upload and optimise all material for RICS’ isurv channel. Manage and quality assure the submitted content, updating the content to ensure it meets the needs of the audience and remains consistent with our global communications strategy.
**Key Achievements & Responsibilities**
- Editing
- Evaluate submitted content to ensure it conforms to the isurv style/format as well as the commissioning brief - discuss and resolve any identified quality or technical queries with authors.
- Conduct developmental editing to the highest standards possible, making sure content meets our brand and style guidelines (general and isurv specific) and is consistent with other RICS published materials and messaging.
- Edit to optimise content for digital platform, including accessibility considerations.
- Assessing whether content would be better presented in visual formats rather than plain copy.
- Maintain content appropriately on our CMS, routinely running quality assurance checks on functionality.
- Review existing content continuously to provide insight and guidance for authors.
- Create simple visual assets using packages such as Illustrator/Indesign/Flourish.
- Commission supporting useable content e.g. checklists, template letters.
- Keep informed of sector updates and up-coming issues (e.g. legislative changes, new cases, RICS documents) using in-house technical resources and Editorial Boards as well as own research.
Liaising with authors
Build and maintain strong working relationships with authors, ensuring the timely delivery of suitable content.
- In consultation with Editorial Boards and in-house technical staff, create a brief for the author with details of what should be reflected (or revised) in their forthcoming submission. Discuss the brief with the author to ensure received update reflects most current information/advice.
- Ensure timely submission of updates and assess their relevance/quality (pursuing dialogue with author as required).
- Liaise with author to ensure timely submission of ad hoc updates as required to reflect changes in legislation/cases/topical and urgent updates.
- Proactively create and maintain positive author interactions to ensure authors are kept engaged.
- Review potential authors, develop outlines and help brief on new/recommissioned sections.
**Experience Required**
- Digital editor with proven track record in editing, quality assuring and uploading high volumes of complex, information-rich technical data and publications.
- Experienced in working with a large external author pool.
- Relevant experience in balancing and delivering multiple projects with multiple elements, tight deadlines and fast-moving requirements with confidence and efficiency.
- Knowledge of legal issues in publishing, including copyright and plagiarism.
- Experience of working on technical or business-to-business material in an editorial capacity.
- Ability to work autonomously, while remaining engaged with the wider team.
- Experience researching technical topics to level required for understanding (and discussing with authors) the content requirements for allocated channels.
- A high standard of written English, with strong writing skills developed in a professional or technical publishing environment.
