The Behaviour Clinic

The Behaviour Clinic is a multidisciplinary therapeutic organisation providing support to children, families and adults across Wales and South West England. The clinic applies the principles of Applied Behaviour Analysis to trauma informed care and therapy to support typically developing individuals with a range of complex emotional and behavioural challenges. We are a dedicated team looking for a new team member who is committed to providing excellent support to clients and the therapists they work with.

Life Story Service

The Behaviour Clinic have a dedicated Life Story Work team delivering therapeutic Life Story Work, Life Story Direct Work, Life Story Supervision and Life Story Work Training. Our life story service is growing, and we would like to recruit a Life Story Champion to Champion our Life Story Direct work and training services. This post will specifically focus on Life Story direct work and training and not therapeutic work.

We are looking for an individual who is passionate about Life Story Work and advocating for it’s use with care experienced young people. You will receive full training in delivering Life Story Direct Work and in our model of supervision and practice. The post holder will deliver life story direct work, life story direct work training, be involved in research and, once experienced in the model of practice, provide Life Story Direct Work supervision.

They will work with the Life Story Lead to advocate for Life Story Training for foster carers and professionals in the field. There will also be opportunities to attend conferences and other events. The Life Story Champion will be The Behaviour Clinic’s Champion Life Story Direct Work services.

Essential:

- Understand and be passionate about Life Story Direct Work
- Registration with Social Care Wales or be willing to register
- Own transport and willingness to travel for appointments and training
- Knowledge of the challenges care experienced young people face
- Be able to develop individual direct work sessions using evidence-based practice.
- Establish collaborative and constructive relationships with complex young people and their carers, communicating highly sensitive information, often in a highly emotive atmosphere.
- Be able to demonstrate excellent listening skills, provide reassurance, empathy, and conflict resolution.
- Be able to communicate effectively with colleagues.
- Have an interest in working with typically developing children who have experienced neglect and trauma.
- Be able to work alone and use initiative.
- Be able to manage a caseload including planning, recording and reviewing
- Be flexible in their approach and have resilience.
- Have a wish to learn and develop Life Story Work practices.
- An ability to deliver training.
- Be committed to developing and disseminating Life Story Work services.
- Be committed to developing a working team using child focused practice.
- Have excellent IT skills and experience of using Microsoft Software.
- Knowledge or experience of working with children in foster care and adoption.

Desirable:

- Knowledge of Microsoft word, excel, outlook, sharepoint, and photoshop.
- Knowledge of other direct work practices.
