**The role**:
Bristol University Press (BUP), along with its award-winning imprint Policy Press (PP), is a leading international publisher of social science books and journals.

We are looking for a Senior Journals Production Assistant to provide general administrative support to the Journals Production Team, as well as taking on a variety of content checking tasks under the guidance of the Journals Senior Production Editor. The role will include varied tasks such as responding to routine queries; processing invoices, fee claims and expenses; performing checks on print-ready files and online content as directed by the Senior Journals Production Editor; and compiling delivery data for print suppliers.

**You will appointed at either Grade E ( Senior Journals Production Assistant) or Grade D (Production Assistant) depending on your experience.**

**What will you be doing?**:

- Be responsible for the uploading of full issue files and check successful delivery and rendering of digital files on BUP Digital platform.
- Under the Journals Senior Production Editor (JSPE)’s supervision manage the creation and set up of files and associated metadata for print, issue print and reprint orders and monitor supplier delivery.
- Under the supervision of the JSPE project manage the prepress activities for up to 5 journals at any one time, taking them from handed over manuscript to files ready for print and distribution, ensuring externally-contracted copy editing and typesetting quality and time standards are met.
- Receipt payments for all production suppliers, manage team’s spend records, chase missing payments when necessary and deal with incoming queries from suppliers regarding payments and purchase order numbers.
- Communicate with external suppliers (e.g. printers, typesetters) to gather information for the business, answer queries and ensure smooth working processes.
- Solve problems that recur on a routine basis, drawing upon pre-prepared materials, or a simple choice of learned solutions/responses for the answers, or by contacting relevant internal or external people for information. Examples would include unpacking issues with digital deliveries (especially non-delivery) and ensuring correct files successfully reach end recipients; requesting missing files from authors and passing them on to the typesetting team; responding to requests for estimated publication timeframes from authors and journal editors.
- Previous experience of working in a related administrative role.
- Good organisational skills.
- Proven ability to work to deadlines.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- High standard of literacy (in particular grammar, punctuation and spelling) and numeracy.
