Applications are welcome for an exciting opportunity within our Medicine Group for a dynamic, innovative and inspiring nurse leader to be our Matron for Respiratory and Infectious Diseases. The role will include Respiratory and Infectious disease wards. Respiratory and Infections Disease specialist teams.

Medicine will provide a very supportive and enabling environment where you will work closely with the Group Director of Nursing and AHPS, Lead Nurses, Matrons, Group Managers and Clinical Leads.

As an ambitious clinical leader, you must have excellent communication skills, be an effective role model, have proven management and leadership experience with passion, drive and the adaptability to cope with continuously changing services. You should be flexible and adaptable to cope with the demands of the role. You must be a strong and confident nurse leader with the ability to encourage, develop and empower our nursing teams.

Your key role will be to ensure clinical quality standards are achieved by providing inspirational and visible compassionate leadership to the nursing teams, team management and support in delivering changing priorities to meet the operational needs of the Services.

You will be a high profile, accessible and responsive leader with managerial responsibility for nursing service delivery and advice across a number of departments within a speciality. You will work as the nursing lead for the triumvirate group management structure, demonstrating and developing collaborative working within and across the MDT.

You will be able to make informed decisions within your own speciality and scope of professional practice, involving patients and public to ensure agreed standards, targets and objectives are met. The keys focus is on quality improvements in safety, effectiveness and patient experience.

Corporate responsibilities will include support for other colleagues and specialties and hospital bleep Rota duties. You will also be responsible for delivering the goals of the Matron’s Charter (2019) taking a proactive as well as reactive stance on cleaning standards and infection control.

Responsible for the provision of a high quality professional Nursing service across a number of departments, promoting best practice and implementing a review process that looks at quality and efficiency to meet the needs of patients and service, working with other departments, specialities and colleagues where support is needed to ensure best practice and safe service delivery.

To demonstrate clinical credibility, participating frequently in ‘back to the floor’ days as well as supporting areas when necessary. Being visible as a senior Nursing leader at all times, both within the Trust and when representing the Trust at external events.

Contribute to development and implementation of policies, procedures and guidelines across a number of departments, ensuring that clinical governance is embedded in practice.

Overall budget responsibility for service resources across a number of departments; in particular ownership of Nursing pay budgets, monitoring variance and implementing contingency plans as appropriate, e.g. bank, agency expenditure and absence management.

Support the Clinical Director with the Group management team in ensuring service objectives are met. Support the Group Director of Nursing in developing nursing services, deputising as required.
